Abia Man Allegedly Machetes Mother to Death While Cooking in Obingwa

A routine moment in the kitchen reportedly ended in tragedy in Abia State after a woman was allegedly killed by her son while preparing soup. The shocking incident has sparked concern in Osaa Ukwu, Obingwa, as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

Livingston Nwakanma allegedly macheted his mother, Mrs Nwaigbe Nwakanma, to death while she was preparing soup in Osaa Ukwu, Obingwa LGA of Abia State. Police later rescued the suspect from a mob and took him into custody.

ABIA — A woman, Mrs Nwaigbe Nwakanma, has reportedly been macheted to death by her son, Livingston Nwakanma, while she was preparing soup in her kitchen in Osaa Ukwu, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, September 19, 2026, throwing the community into shock.

Following a distress call, officers from the Eastern Ngwa Divisional Police Headquarters reportedly rushed to the scene.

The police said the woman was found lifeless after sustaining machete injuries. A medical professional subsequently confirmed her death, while her remains were deposited at a morgue.

Meanwhile, the suspect was reportedly rescued by the police from an angry mob that was about to lynch him.

The Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident while responding to an inquiry by DAILY POST.

According to Chinaka, the suspect was taken to a hospital for medical attention and is currently in police custody.

“On arrival, officers met the macheted mother of the suspect, who was lifeless at the scene. A medical professional confirmed her death, and her body was deposited at the morgue,” Chinaka said.

She added that the suspect was “swiftly rescued by the police” after a mob attempted to lynch him.

Investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing is ongoing.

Reports also claimed that Nwakanma was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the incident. However, the police statement did not independently establish this claim as the cause of the alleged attack.
