Bauchi Housewife Kills Co-Wife with Pestle, Says Victim Appears to kill her in Dreams
A family tragedy in Bauchi has taken a disturbing turn after a 35-year-old housewife allegedly told police that recurring dreams involving her co-wife led to a fatal attack.
A 35-year-old Bauchi housewife, Hauwau Haruna, reportedly confessed to killing her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, with a pestle. She claimed Jamila had repeatedly appeared in her dreams and attempted to harm her and her children. The suspect was reportedly arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command and said she regretted the incident.
A 35-year-old housewife in Bauchi State, Hauwau Haruna, has reportedly confessed to killing her co-wife, Jamila Adamu, after claiming that the deceased repeatedly appeared in her dreams and attempted to harm her and her children.
The Bauchi State Police Command reportedly arrested Hauwau on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in connection with the death of Jamila, whom she allegedly attacked with a pestle.
The suspect reportedly made the confession during an interview at the Bauchi State Police Command headquarters, where she said she regretted her action.
Hauwau said she had lived with Jamila for more than 16 years before the incident.
“I was arrested and brought to the Bauchi State Police Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for committing a murder,” she said.
“She appeared in my dreams”
Explaining what allegedly led to the incident, Hauwau claimed that Jamila had repeatedly appeared in her dreams and attempted to kill her and her children.
“She was appearing to me in my dreams attempting to kill me and my children. Although the story is a long one, she came yesterday (Sunday). The incidents in the dream have been happening for a while,” she said.
According to the suspect, Jamila appeared in the form of a “cat” on the day of the incident.
“She came yesterday in the form of a cat and I woke up in the dream and Allah helped me to pick up my food flask on my side and struck at the cat and she went out of my room,” Hauwau said.
She further claimed that the figure later changed into her co-wife and appeared outside her room.
Suspect describes alleged attack
Hauwau alleged that a pestle used by children to break palm fruits was lying near her room.
She said she picked up the pestle and struck Jamila several times.
“Already beside my room there was a pestle used by children to break palm fruits, so I quickly took up the pestle and started hitting her with the pestle, telling her that you cannot kill me because you have continued to harm me. Before you kill me, I will kill you,” she said.
“I continued hitting her with the pestle until she fell to the ground,” she added.
Following the incident, Hauwau said she became confused and did not know what to do.
She said she later rushed into her room, picked up her newborn twins and fled the house.
“I strapped one to my back and held the other child in my hand. I rushed out of the house and started running to look for a commercial motorcycle (Okada),” she said.
She planned to surrender to police
Hauwau said she eventually boarded a commercial motorcycle to her parents’ residence.
According to her, she initially planned to surrender herself at an estate police station but became afraid that she could be attacked by a mob.
“I initially intended to present myself to the estate police station but I was scared of mob action and fear of them attacking me alongside my twins. My intention was to keep my newborn twins with my mother for safekeeping,” she said.
She said she handed the twins over to her mother before intending to surrender herself to the police.
However, Hauwau said her mother stopped her from going to the police station and contacted her elder brother.
Husband allegedly dismissed her concerns
When asked whether she had previously told her husband about the alleged dreams, Hauwau said she had raised the matter with him.
She claimed, however, that her husband dismissed her concerns.
Efforts to obtain the reaction of her husband, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, popularly known as Askiya, were unsuccessful.
The circumstances surrounding Jamila’s death are subject to police investigation, while the suspect’s account of the alleged dreams remains her own claim.
