Isiala Ngwa South Stakeholders Back Emeka Atuma for Abia Central Senate 2027, Say “We Want Governorship”
By Prince Prico
A fresh political signal is emerging from Isiala Ngwa South ahead of the 2027 elections, as stakeholders say their focus is the governorship while backing Emeka Atuma for the Abia Central Senate seat.
Isiala Ngwa South stakeholders have backed Rt. Hon. Emeka Atuma for the 2027 Abia Central Senatorial District election, saying their major political interest is the governorship. The stakeholders also expressed support for a senator from the Ikwuano/Umuahia axis, citing equity, experience and political representation.
Stakeholders from Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area have declared that their major political interest in the 2027 Abia governorship is to produce the governor, while backing Rt. Hon. Emeka Atuma for the Abia Central Senatorial District seat.
The position was made known during a gathering of APC stakeholders and community groups from the area, where Atuma was adopted as their preferred candidate for the 2027 Abia Central senatorial contest.
The declaration has added a fresh layer to the emerging political conversation around power-sharing, equity and representation in Abia Central ahead of the 2027 elections.
“It Is Atuma’s Turn,” Stakeholder Declares
Speaking before the adoption, Chief I.K. Anyatonwu described Atuma as a prepared politician with legislative and oversight experience.
He said Atuma had previously demonstrated the capacity required for effective representation, adding that “it is Atuma’s turn.”
Anyatonwu also recalled Atuma’s tenure as a member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency from 2003 to 2007.
According to him, Atuma made significant contributions to legislation, human capital development and infrastructure during his time in the House of Representatives.
He further credited Atuma with sponsoring two principal Acts which, according to him, contributed to the establishment of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA).
Isiala Ngwa South Stakeholders Back Ikwuano/Umuahia for Senate
Atuma, while speaking at the event, said the decision to support the emergence of a senator from Ikwuano/Umuahia had favoured his candidacy.
He pointed to his legislative experience, political background and acceptance across Abia Central as factors supporting his bid.
The former Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Chairman and former Commissioner for Youth Development also said the Ngwa people were united in their quest for the governorship.
According to Atuma, the Ngwa bloc had willingly ceded the Abia Central Senate seat to the Ikwuano/Umuahia axis in the spirit of equity and brotherhood.
The position, he said, was based on the understanding that the political interests of the various communities could be accommodated through a balance of representation.
“Our Interest Is Governorship”
The stakeholders subsequently declared that their immediate political priority was the governorship rather than the Senate.
They also expressed support for the emergence of a senator from Ikwuano/Umuahia, with Atuma receiving their backing for the senatorial contest.
The latest endorsement comes amid increased grassroots mobilisation around Atuma’s 2027 senatorial ambition in parts of Abia Central.
The event featured cultural displays, participation by the Isiala Ngwa South Farmers Association and the presence of several Atuma support groups.
Supporters also sang solidarity songs in honour of the former federal lawmaker.
The endorsement further places the issues of equity, political representation and zoning at the centre of the developing 2027 political conversation in Abia Central.
