A quiet night in Calabar South has turned into a frightening mystery after a young woman reportedly disappeared following a visit to a friend’s home, while blood traces were discovered around a nearby soakaway. Two suspects are now in police custody as investigators search for answers and residents fear the worst.

A young woman’s disappearance has plunged an Afokang community in Calabar South into fear after blood traces were reportedly found near a house she had visited. Two suspects are in police custody, but investigators say no body has been found and no murder has been established.

Police in Calabar South are investigating a disturbing incident involving a missing woman, blood traces found near a compound in Afokang and two suspects in custody. Police say no corpse has been found and no murder charge has been established, while investigations continue.

Calabar South Blood Mystery Deepens

What began as a night of friendship in Afokang, Calabar South, Cross River State, has ended in a disturbing police investigation involving a missing woman, blood traces and two suspects.

The incident has unsettled residents of the Jebbs Street area, where blood was reportedly discovered flowing from a pipe connected to a compound occupied by one of the suspects.

Police were alerted after residents noticed the blood traces around the soakaway area. The development quickly sparked fears that a serious crime may have occurred inside the property.

However, the police have stressed that no body has been found and no murder charge has been established.

Two people have been taken into custody. They are 34-year-old Ofofon Philip, from Ini Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, and his 23-year-old girlfriend, Promise Offiong.

Missing Woman at Centre of Investigation

At the centre of the investigation is a young woman who reportedly visited Philip’s residence with Offiong and was expected to spend the night.

Her identity has not been established publicly. Neither has a family member or employer reportedly come forward to file a missing-person report.

A neighbour, who requested anonymity, claimed she saw an average-height, fair-complexioned woman enter Philip’s apartment with Offiong.

According to the neighbour, the woman was not seen leaving the premises.

Another resident, identified as Stella, said the disappearance had created anxiety across the community.

«“We don’t know her dreams, her church, where she worked, or the last thing she told her mother, but we know she did not leave that house.”»

The claim, however, remains unverified. Police investigations are still ongoing.

Blood Traces Trigger Panic

Residents said the discovery was made on a Tuesday morning after rain had been expected to wash the area.

Instead, blood was reportedly seen around a pipe leading from the compound towards a soakaway.

The discovery immediately raised alarm.

Police officers were subsequently deployed to the area, which was reportedly secured while preliminary investigations were conducted.

Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Eitokpah Akata, confirmed that blood traces were found around the soakaway.

He said, however, that investigators had yet to establish that a murder had taken place.

According to Akata, preliminary searches were conducted and both suspects denied involvement in any killing.

Philip reportedly told investigators that the blood came from an old injury to his leg.

His girlfriend, Offiong, reportedly claimed that she had been locked inside the room before the alleged incident.

Investigators are now examining both accounts.

Residents Raise Human Parts Allegation

The discovery has also fuelled rumours of possible human-part harvesting in the community.

However, there is no confirmed evidence that human parts were harvested or that the missing woman was killed.

One resident, Immaculata, alleged that one of Philip’s buses arrived in the early hours of the morning and later returned.

She claimed, without providing evidence, that the vehicle may have been used to transport body parts.

The allegation has not been confirmed by the police.

Authorities have urged residents not to treat unverified claims as established facts while the investigation continues.

Police Reject Rumours of Suspects’ Release

Akata also dismissed reports that the suspects had been released.

“They are still in police custody pending the outcome of a discreet investigation,” he said.

He added that the case was being handled as “conduct likely to cause a breach of peace” while investigators worked to establish the facts.

“Up till this moment, there is no corpse found as reported by neighbours,” Akata said.

The police spokesperson further warned that unverified claims about a murder could trigger violence in the community.

Fear Spreads Across Afokang

The incident has reportedly changed the mood in parts of Afokang.

Some residents now say they are more cautious at night. Parents are also said to be keeping a closer watch on their children.

Residents living in open compounds have reportedly become reluctant to use outdoor restrooms after dark because of fears about their safety.

Community members have also expressed concern that people who may have information about the incident could be afraid to speak publicly.

Youth leader Amaku Awatt declined to comment extensively, saying the matter was now in the hands of the police.

“The matter is in their hands,” he said.

Monarch Calls for Vigilance

The clan head of Efut Akani Esuk in Calabar South, His Royal Highness Muri Eyo Effiong Okon V, confirmed that concerned residents had visited his palace over the development.

“They saw blood that flowed along the gutter linking the residence of the suspect,” the monarch said.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and to take their safety seriously both during the day and at night.

The monarch also raised concerns about access and security around the area, particularly the roadblock associated with the nearby Nigeria Correctional Centre.

Suspects Arraigned in Court

The two suspects reportedly appeared in court for the first time on June 18, 2026, following their arraignment by the Cross River State Police Command.

The police confirmed that investigations were still underway.

As of the time of filing this report, no body had been recovered and no murder charge had been established.

The identity and whereabouts of the missing woman also remain unclear.

For residents of Afokang, the unanswered questions are becoming increasingly troubling: Who was the woman? What happened after she entered the house? And why were blood traces found around the property?

Until investigators establish the facts, the most disturbing claims surrounding the case remain allegations.

For now, a community is left waiting for answers.
