A 19-year-old suspect has reportedly been arrested for allegedly raping two sisters, aged 11 and six, in Abia State, in a case that has triggered widespread concern and renewed calls for stronger child protection measures.
The allegation was made by Facebook user Vivian Chigbu, who shared details of the incident in a post published on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
According to Chigbu, the 11-year-old victim is currently receiving medical treatment after sustaining injuries during the alleged sexual assault. However, authorities have not publicly released further medical details or officially commented on the extent of the child’s injuries.
She wrote:
“A boy of 19 years old defiled and raped two minors. The 11-year-old is receiving treatment. May God help us all.”
Reacting to the incident, Chigbu appealed to the Abia State Government to urgently establish a rehabilitation centre for survivors of sexual abuse, saying many victims are left to cope with severe emotional and psychological trauma without adequate support.
She also urged Governor Alex Chioma Otti and lawmaker Dennis Rowland Chinwendu to ensure the implementation of legislation aimed at supporting survivors.
“His Excellency, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, please we need the rehabilitation centre as soon as possible. Hon. Dennis Rowland Chinwendu, the bill cannot just be passed into law; we need implementation, sir. Our girls are being raped and defiled daily, and we have nowhere to keep them. Those girls are passing through trauma,” she wrote.
The incident has reignited public concern over the rising cases of sexual violence against children and the need for improved victim support services, including medical care, counselling and rehabilitation.
As of the time of filing this report, the Abia State Police Command had not released an official statement on the case.
