“Abia North Belongs to the People, Not a Political Dynasty” — Emeka Kalu Fires Back at Orji Uzor Kalu

Chief (Dr.) Emeka Charles Kalu reprimands Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s claim that the Abia North Senate seat “belongs to him,” stressing that power rests with the people—not political dynasties. Kalu calls for democratic fairness and people-driven leadership ahead of 2027.

Chief (Dr.) Emeka Charles Kalu, Chairman of the ECK Foundation and a leading voice for good governance, has strongly condemned the recent remarks made by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, in which the former governor allegedly claimed that the Abia North Senate seat “belongs to him” until he completes his term.

Describing the statement as “undemocratic and boastful rhetoric,” Dr. Kalu said it was disrespectful to the collective will of the people of Abia North, who hold the constitutional right to freely elect their representatives.

“Let it be clear: no individual owns a democratic seat in Nigeria. The Senate seat for Abia North belongs to the people—not to any individual, family, or political dynasty,” Kalu asserted.
“Power originates from the people, and no amount of personal entitlement or political arrogance can override the sovereign rights of the electorate.”

He emphasized that while Senator Kalu has every right to pursue his political ambitions, he must respect the principles of democracy, which demand “open competition, fairness, and accountability.”

According to Dr. Kalu, the 2027 elections will not be about personal ownership or political entitlement but about “competence, integrity, and service delivery”—values the people of Abia North have long yearned for.

“We are not intimidated by any claim of political monopoly,” he continued. “Abia North deserves fresh ideas, purposeful leadership, and a voice that speaks truth to power—not recycled arrogance masquerading as experience.”

Reaffirming his commitment to the progress and transformation of Abia State, Dr. Kalu called on all aspirants to submit themselves to the people’s judgment.

“Let every aspirant enter the arena; ultimately, it is the people who will decide—not the declaration of any one individual. Democracy thrives on choice, and in 2027, Abia North will choose progress over pride.”
