2023: Sokoto group adopts LP Presidential Candidate, Obi

Sokoto United Youth Movement, SUYM, a popular group has thrown their full weight behind the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, describing him as a man of the people.

The group under the leadership of Mallam Yakubu Shagari expressed their relentless support for the former Governor of Anambra State, stressed that Obi was for Nigerians, adding that, “and as Nigerians, we deserve a competeobint leader in the North as well”.

Speaking in Sokoto, the capital of Sokoto State, Mallam Shagari said their decision to adopt Peter Obi as their presidential candidate was due to the huge clamour from Nigerians calling for his leadership.

Mallam Shagari told newsmen that Obi, who Nigerians are calling for, has shown exemplary leadership, making it imperative they join the bandwagon in order not to waste their votes since there is now a credible alternative for the first time in a long time.

“This is basic sense; Nigerians have always had the ability to vote for the appropriate leadership, but have never had the right choices, so voting in the first place makes you responsible for replacing one awful leader with another.” We’ve always lacked a genuine alternative, which is why the majority of Nigerians don’t bother voting.

Obi’s arrival, on the other hand, has changed the game; we know that we have seen the Messiah, and we will not waste our votes this time, therefore we join our brothers in all six geographical zones in declaring that the FUTURE IS NOW, and Peter Obi is our choice.

We have devised winning techniques for reaching out to our people in Sokoto through a door-to-door campaign on the need to look at the bigger picture of a brighter and more cohesive future in which merit and hard work are recognized by the system.

We need to see the recovery of our devastated economy so that our children and unborn generation can compete successfully regardless of where they come from.”

Shagari went on to say that a powerful partnership with various interest groups was required.

“ We have begun discussions with our Northern elders on the need of voting for the correct candidate this time, one who has the political will to right the wrongs and put our country back on the path of sustainable progress. We also salute fellow leaders from other parts of the country who have expressed an interest in helping to make Peter Obi’s presidency a reality.

The group also warned against any form of hate speech that could trigger violence or plant discord, as they called on other regions of the country to follow suit in the quest for a sustainable good leadership.

“These efforts should be sustained and reproduced across the country, while we condemn any hate speech or comment made by anyone from any region of Nigeria in order to sow discord as the general elections near,” he added.
