2022: Prof Ibe Preaches Equity
As the nation prepares for the 2023 general elections, Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, Prof Gregory Ibe has enjoined Abians to be vanguards of equity. Prof Ibe who gave the charge in a new year message contended that by doing so, “Abians will be fulfilling the wishes and aspirations of our founding fathers who wisely laid the foundations of our state on the strong pillars of equity, fairness and justice”.
According to Prof Ibe, the counsel became necessary against the backdrop of some developments in the political sphere that have the capacity of jeopardizing the peace currently pervading the state. In his words, “I am constrained to put out this call because it appears some very unpatriotic people are bent on destroying the cord of unity that has held us together since creation in 1991”.
Speaking further he advocated the sustenance of the legacies of the founding fathers of the state as championed by the late chairman of Abia Advisory Council. According to him,”I dare say that the cause of equity is what our father Ezeogo Dr Anagha Ezeikpe lived and died for. In our last meeting he extracted a vow from me to continue to defend Abia unity based on proper implementation of the “Abia charter of equity”.
I therefore implore all Abians to do everything possible to execute the last wish of our late founding father.
He counselled politicians to be wary of utterances and actions that have the capacity of heating up the system unnecessarily and sued for a year of sensitivity, understanding and accommodation .
Concluding, Prof Ibe encouraged Abians to be purveyors of hope and merchants of faith while upholding the tenets of equity and fairness, asserting that 2022 will definitely be a good year for the state.
