WIKE: Military confirms assassination attempt on Yerima in Abuja

The Nigeria Military has confirmed the attempted assassination against the navy officer who recently was involved in an altercation with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Officer A.M. Yerima

Earlier , it was reported that the young Nigerian Navy officer, Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, whose video went viral last week reportedly escaped an assassination attempt on Sunday evening in Abuja, just days after his widely publicised confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Confirming the alleged assassination attempt, the Military in a post on Facebook wrote:

“Lt. AM Yerima sensed early on that something was wrong. He realized he was being watched closely and followed everywhere he went. It seemed as if the police were trailing him from one location to another.

“Then, while driving along the highway, a police pick-up suddenly sped toward him and double-crossed his vehicle, blocking his path without warning.

“The officers confronted him aggressively, shouting, “You’re the one who embarrassed Wike and the police force!” Sensing danger, Lt. Yerima immediately pressed his panic button to alert the Navy, the Army, and the entire military network. He also secured himself right away in case anything went wrong.

“Within minutes, military personnel arrived in full force, and the police officers who attempted to intimidate him fled the scene instantly.

Continuing, the post read: “Shortly after, the military traced those same officers back to their station. Investigations are now underway to uncover who gave the order to trail and block Lt. Yerima in the first place.

I sincerely hope this situation is not what it appears to be. This man deserves full protection. Since the previous issue involving Wike, it’s possible that some of Wike’s supporters might be targeting him. But they forget that Yerima is not a civilian—he is a senior military officer. His safety must be prioritized at all costs.

God bless our military.
God bless the Navy and our naval officers.
God bless the Army.

“And for everyone asking: Lt. AM Yerima is completely safe. Nothing happened to him because he acted swiftly and used his panic button to alert his men. Stay safe, @yareeemarh. God is with you.”

Meanwhile, Yerima has been on the spotlight following his brevity in standing up to the former Governor of Rivers State without fidgeting, as could be visibly seen in the video wherein he declared confidently that: “I have integrity”.
