Why 2027 Should Be Ibere’s Turn: Rethinking Equity in Ikwuano State Assembly Representation

“A critical analysis of Ikwuano’s political rotation, making a compelling case for Ibere’s representation in the Abia State House of Assembly come 2027.”

In recent times, public discourse has intensified over the sustained exclusion of a sister clan—Ibere—from representing Ikwuano State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly. While opinions have been sharply divided, it has become necessary to adopt a more realistic and balanced position rather than succumb to political bandwagoning.

It is an established political norm—both locally and globally—that representation within a constituency is often guided by an informal rotation or power-sharing understanding among its component clans or blocs. This arrangement is designed to promote inclusion, equity, and a sense of collective ownership of governance.

In Ikwuano, historical records show that Oboro, Oloko, and Ariam-Usaka have each had a minimum of eight years of representation, translating to at least two legislative tenures per clan. This pattern underscores an implicit rotational balance—one that remains incomplete without IBERE’s inclusion.

As Dr. Dom Nick aptly observed, “If your father is alive, you may not know what he is protecting for you until he departs.” This wisdom resonates deeply within the ongoing debate over political equity in Ikwuano.

The agitation for fairness in the sharing formula of the State House of Assembly seat must therefore be viewed through this lens. It is important to note that no sister clan has been denied representation for eight consecutive years except Ibere. Granting Ibere its turn is not an act of charity; it is a necessary step toward restoring balance in Ikwuano’s political equation.

Those who argue that elective positions should not be guided by any form of rotational understanding must also acknowledge a fundamental truth: politics mirrors family life. In a family, every sibling naturally aspires to enjoy his or her rightful inheritance. Exclusion breeds resentment; inclusion fosters unity.

At this critical juncture, the focus should not be on political continuity or recycled representation. Instead, the 2027 elections present an opportunity for Ikwuano to consciously vote for an IBERE son into the Abia State House of Assembly, thereby leveling the political playing field and reinforcing the principles of fairness and equity.

Only through such deliberate action can Ikwuano strengthen its internal cohesion and project a more united front in the broader political landscape of Abia State.
