Trump to Host Zelenskyy in Washington Amid Talks on Ending Ukraine-Russia War
US President Donald Trump is set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington on Friday, October 17, in what is expected to be a pivotal discussion on the ongoing war with Russia and future US military support.
According to Christopher Miller, chief correspondent for the Financial Times, the meeting date was confirmed by three sources familiar with the plans. Miller shared the information via the social platform X, noting that the face-to-face meeting follows two phone conversations between both leaders over the past weekend.

During the calls, Trump and Zelenskyy reportedly discussed the sale of American Tomahawk missiles and explored potential pathways toward ending the war in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, a Ukrainian delegation led by Yulia Svyrydenko and Rustem Umerov is currently in Washington for a series of talks with US officials. The discussions are expected to focus on air defense systems, strike capabilities, energy security, and expanding sanctions against Russia — efforts likely to lay the groundwork for the upcoming presidential meeting.
The planned in-person meeting comes as the Trump administration shifts its foreign policy focus toward Eastern Europe. Following the end of the Israel–Hamas conflict, President Trump reportedly instructed his team to concentrate on resolving the war in Ukraine and advancing discussions toward a potential peace agreement with Iran.
