A 76-year-old woman was killed Sunday morning in Brooklyn after being struck by a solar panel torn loose by powerful winds from a nor’easter, officials confirmed.

The fatal incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. at 3100 Ocean Parkway. According to the New York City Department of Buildings, the solar panel was ripped from the top of a carport structure in an outdoor parking lot. It reportedly flew about 20 feet through the air before hitting the woman.

Emergency responders rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Following the tragedy, authorities temporarily closed one entrance to the nearby Q train station and issued a partial vacate order for the parking lot as a safety precaution, Famous Reporters writes with reference to CBS News.

By Monday morning, wind gusts in Brooklyn had reached up to 42 mph, while a Coastal Flood Warning remained in effect for New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County through 8 p.m. Monday.
