Tinubu’s Housing Plan Sparks Hope in Abia as APC Hails Umuahia Estate, Urges Fair Compensation

“In a move that could reshape housing affordability in Abia State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposed Federal Housing Estate in Umuahia, describing it as a timely intervention in one of Nigeria’s most expensive rental markets. The party, however, raised concerns over compensation for affected landowners, urging Governor Alex Otti to act swiftly to prevent a repeat of past grievances.”

” The Abia APC has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposed Federal Housing Estate in Umuahia, saying it will reduce high rent costs and housing shortages. The party also urged Governor Alex Otti to compensate affected landowners and consider a similar housing project in Aba.”

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the proposed construction of a Federal Housing Estate in Umuahia, the state capital.

In a statement signed by Uche Aguoru, Publicity Secretary of the APC, Abia State chapter, and made available to journalists in Umuahia, the party noted that the project, once completed by the APC-led Federal Government, would significantly reduce the soaring cost of rent, which has positioned Umuahia among the most expensive cities to live in within the region.
The APC stated that it is “optimistic that the housing estate will help reduce the housing deficit and alleviate the challenges faced by residents,” particularly those in the state capital who continue to grapple with high accommodation costs.

The party also commended the Abia State Government for collaborating with the Federal Government by providing land for the project. However, it urged Governor Alex Otti to ensure that all landowners affected by the development are adequately compensated.
According to the statement, “this will help prevent the frustrations and grievances being experienced by citizens who donated their properties in Nsulu and Ukwa respectively.”

Furthermore, the APC called on Governor Otti to take a cue from the Federal Government by considering the establishment of a similar housing estate in Aba, the state’s commercial hub, to address growing housing pressures in the city.

The party also urged Abians to continue supporting President Tinubu’s administration, noting that the President has demonstrated “goodwill and a genuine commitment to the development of Abia State,” evident in ongoing infrastructure projects, strategic federal appointments, and the siting of key federal institutions in the state.

It added that despite Abia’s opposition status, the Federal Government has continued to extend developmental support, urging residents to reciprocate by aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Abians should sustain these gains by supporting the APC in the 2027 general elections,” the statement concluded.
