Fans have been hoping for a reunion of The Office and they finally got it… kind of. The Office co-stars John Krasinski and Steve Carell, who played Jim Halpert and Michael Scott, chatted about their time on the series during Krasinski’s uplifting new YouTube show Some Good News.
Krasinski and Carell reminisced about ‘The Office’
Krasinski is providing some positivity during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, delivering Some Good News, a show that focuses on positivity and happiness.
The Office just celebrated a big anniversary, so Krasinski used the opportunity to bring Carell in for an interview for his show. That turned into a sweet moment between the co-stars, as they reminisced about the series.
“So Steve, this week marked a huge anniversary for you and I. We were on a little show called The Office and it turned 15 years old this week,” Krasinski stated.
He continued, “I was a waiter when I got that job, I was 23
years old. After the pilot, I went back to waiting tables because I was sure
nothing was going to happen with it. We all kind of came into it with that
vibe. I remember none of us had done anything huge.”
“It’s such a happy surprise that after all these years
people are still tuning in and finding it today,” Carell noted, adding, “it’s
pretty cool.”
They revealed some of their favorite moments
The Office stars then shared some of their favorite scenes and moments from the show and their behind-the-scenes stories are everything. For instance, a small moment in the “Dinner Party” episode turned out to be a hilarious on-set moment for the cast.
“All of our exchange around the micro-flat screen TV,” Carell explained was a favorite, as bloopers illustrated how hilarious it was that the small flat screen TV could only extend a very tiny bit away from the wall and fold back.
“I think most of the memories have to do with things that we shared as a cast,” Carell noted. “When we were doing ‘Fun Run’ and it was about 105 degrees outside…”
Another standout for them was one of the Christmas episodes.
“I remember when we did the episode where you played Santa and were very upset
that Phyllis was already Santa,” Krasinski shared. “So you were asking people
to come sit on your lap and Brian [Baumgartner], thank God, was chosen to sit
on your lap.”
He continued, “I was supposed to be the button of the scene
where they cut to me and I did a Jim face. I was never there, I was physically
never there because by the time they got to the swish pan to me, I was out. I
was either on the floor or I had left the room.”
Carell also recalled when Jim impersonated Dwight Schrute
(Rainn Wilson). “Part of what was so much fun about it is that everybody in the
cast was rooting for everybody else,” Carell shared. “People would step back
when it was time for other people to shine and celebrate it. When you came in
as Dwight that day, it was crazy watching Jim do Dwight. You are a very good
impressionist in general, I don’t think people know,” he said.
Krasinki also explained the behind-the-scenes anguish of “the most emotional I’ve ever been on a set,” when they filmed the scene where Jim says goodbye to Michael when he leaves in season 7.
“That was a hard one. That was really tough,” Carell
agreed.
They hinted at a reunion
As they wrapped up the interview, Carell shared what a special experience it was to be on The Office, explaining, “some of the most fond memories, personally or professionally, are entwined and connected with that show.”
Krasinksi agreed, saying, “Without a doubt. Listen I know
everybody’s talking about a reunion, hopefully one day, we just get to reunite
as people. And just all get to say hi.”
“Just to see your face is so great,” Carell added. “I miss you a ton man, it’s so good to see you…” Krasinksi said, joking, “I really think you’re going to make something of yourself, Steve.”
“I love you and I can’t wait to see you very soon,” he added.
