AWKA — A 47-year-old teacher, Mrs. Dim Ebere, who was declared wanted by the Anambra State Police Command over the alleged death of a 12-year-old pupil following a flogging incident, has surrendered to the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to the police spokesman, the suspect voluntarily reported to the Neni Police Station after sustained manhunt operations by the Command’s Safe School Protection Squad, working alongside officers of the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters and with the support of community leaders and stakeholders in Adazi-Ani.

“The suspect is currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, where the ongoing investigation will be concluded,” the statement read.

The police recalled that the incident was first reported at the Neni Divisional Police Headquarters on July 16.

Following the report, officers immediately responded and rushed the 12-year-old victim to a hospital for emergency treatment. Sadly, the child was confirmed dead by a medical doctor while receiving medical care.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command commended the Adazi-Ani community, the traditional institution, and other stakeholders for their cooperation, which contributed to the suspect’s surrender.

The Command also assured the bereaved family and members of the public that justice would be pursued diligently.

According to the statement, investigators remain committed to concluding the case professionally and ensuring that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.
