WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The FBI served a search warrant to Senator Richard Burr’s attorney in connection with the stock trades that Burr made in advance of a sharp market downturn triggered by the coronavirus pandemic, a senior Justice Department official confirmed on Thursday.

The official said the FBI did not conduct a raid, but paid a visit to the senator’s home to collect his cell phone, and that the warrant was obtained at the “highest levels” of the Justice Department.
