Bishop Eches Divine Eches

The chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) Imo State Chapter, Bishop Eches Divine Eches has urged politicians to restrain from beating drums that would instigate war among the people, saying that no nation can grow amid crisis.

Bishop Eches who stressed that no place all over the world has been named ‘crisis’ lamented that Crisis, as it were, is no respecter of anyone, as he reiterated his unflinching believe in God’s ability to restore peace and tranquility in the State and Nigeria in general despite all odds.

He advised politicians to eschew any form of words or approaches that could elicit reactions among the led, resulting in loss of lives and property, as he reminded them of their children who are littered in different parts of the nation and the world, saying “Politicians should know that their children are outside of this country and state.”

His words: “I wouldn’t want to point at anything but I want to say categorically that our politicians should restrain themselves from beating drums of war. Politicians should know that their children are outside of this country and state. Therefore, they should not say things that instigate and incite people to take up arms against one another where their children are not.”

Furthermore, Bishop Eches charged all those in power to desist from politics of hatred and bitterness but respect their individual constitutional roles, as well as people’s time and chance.

Hear him: “They should respect their constitutional roles, play politics not with bitterness and rancour but play politics in a way and manner that they will respect other people’s time and chance. For now, we have leadership in the State and I want everyone to think of how to support the government of the day so that when it is your turn, Imolites will also support you to do governance.”

Continuing, he said: “It is no longer time of PDP or APC; if PDP is on the throne, we’ll also ask people to support PDP leadership and Vis-a-Vis. Because, what is happening in Damaturu, Yobe, that Boko Haram now have their flags everywhere, it’s not what we desire here. Look at Boronu, it all started like this and the leadership both religious leaders kept quiet. Now, they can’t sleep with their eyes closed and that’s why we are speaking out.

“Let me tell you, crisis is not the name of any place and it doesn’t respect any individual. When it consumes, it consumes everyone and that is not good for us; the drums of war will not help us. And, I’m asking and appealing, let us as a people calm down and walk together as a family to restore peace and it will benefit all of us.

The Clergy who described the current situation in the State as a challenge, while interacting with Newsmen at CAN office, in Owerri, the state’s capital, posited that the state would undoubtedly bounce back to a greater glory.

CAN Boss expressed utter confidence in the effectual prayers said by churches in the state, while conceding to the notion that Imo State houses numerous churches and as such is capable of delivering the state through their earnest prayers.

“Imo state is one of the States that parade churches and the churches are doing the needful, hence praying to God for the restoration of peace and normalcy in the land. And I believe God will hear us and restore peace in the land.”

Similarly, he advised the youths, he said: “my advice also to the youths is that the youths should not allow themselves be used. Of course, we are hearing series of prayers they have been organising, the church in Imo State, CAN is following events. We’re doing our prayers in our various stations but sometimes at the of May, we’ll come together to round off the prayers and we believe in one voice that in a short while, everywhere will be calm. I’m trusting God.”
