Rep. Onuigbo lauds EEDC for commencing the distribution of free Pre-paid meters
The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/South Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives,Rep. Sam Onuigbo (Odozi Obodo) has lauded the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company(EEDC) for harkening to his call and commencing the free distribution of pre-paid meters in Abia State.
Onuigbo had reportedly, on April 30, 2021, written to the Managing Director of the EEDC through the Chairman, House Committee on Power complaining that the EEDC’s distribution of meters in the South East left Abia State out and requested that this anomaly be corrected.
It was on the strength of the said letter, that the Chairman, House Committee on Power, Hon. Engineer Magaji Da’u Aliyu had written to the EEDC on May 20,2021, urging the latter to immediately extend the distribution of meters to Abia State residents, insisting that, “in order to enhance accountable services while eliminating the phenomenon of estimated Billings”.
To this effect, residents in Umuahia, the Abia State capital report that the EEDC has commenced the installation of pre-paid meters for free.
According to the EEDC Network Manager, Mr Ozoezeh Onyebuchi, the target is to distribute the meters to 10,000 to 15,000 households in Abia State before the end of the year.
