Reconstruction Of 50-Km Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road: Abia Group Lauds Onuigbo, Calls For Reelection

The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia State, Hon Sam Ifeanyi Onuigbo Abia has been appraised for his indefatigable efforts towards the resumption of reconstruction work on the 50-km Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road by the construction firm handling project.

Nzuko Ikwuano-na-Umuahia Citizens Forum, (NIUCF), an umbrella body of the people of Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia south local government areas of Abia State, gave this applause, as commending Onuigbo’s effective representation since assumption of office, in the year 2015.

Famousreporters.com recalls that Hartland Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the reconstruction of the 50-km Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene Road in Abia, had officially returned to the site on Thursday, 10th February 2022, to resume work on the project.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government had first awarded the N13.2 billion contract to the company in 2019 but the job was stalled by the paucity of funds. Federal Executive Council re-approved the project for funding by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) through the Road Tax Credit Scheme.

However, rising from an enlarged meeting and well attended by the Indigenous people from the three local government areas of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, held at Abia Hotels Umuahia, the Abia state capital, on Sunday, the NIUCF described the gesture as a sign of relief to commuters who had severally suffered and faced hardship while plying bad state of Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road.

This was contained in a communique jointly signed by the NIUCF Chairman, Kenneth Ekeleme and made available to journalists in Umuahia, the Abia capital on Monday.

The Forum also expressed profound appreciation to the facilitator of the reconstruction of the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road project and the lawmaker representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South federal Constituency of Abia State at the House of Representatives, Hon Sam Ifeanyichukwu Onuigbo, for his uncommon, effective and responsive representation in the green chamber of the National Assembly.

NIUCF further outlined that, with the resumed reconstruction work on the road project, Rep Onuigbo has added another feather to his cap, expressing optimism that the Abia federal lawmaker will attract more peoples- oriented projects to enable him to consolidate on his overwhelming and unprecedented strides since on assumption in 2015, and as well as, inauguration on the current second term in office in 2019, and also opined that history will forever be kind to the quintessential lawmaker on attractions of meaningful federal and state social and Infrastructural projects that have impacted positively and immensely enhanced the growth and development of Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South local government areas of Abia state.

According to the forum, “It’s not in doubt that the federal legislator has demonstrated exemplary Leadership anchored on socio-economic and Infrastructural developments of the Federal Constituency.

“We recall the federal attraction and as well as the personal building of important projects and homes of indigents and non Indigents of Ikwuano and Umuahia areas ranging from the building of houses for the less privileged, widows and widowers; the reconstruction of school classroom blocks across the three local government areas that made up Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency; road grading and reconstruction facilitated and carried out by the exceptional parliamentarian, training of constituents in many aspects of skills acquisition, the initiation of mechanized agricultural programmes that have engaged many people on production and ownership of poultry farms, Cassava, Rice, Wheat plantations settlements that had gone a long way to enhance food sufficiency and security in the state, southeast and entire country, etc.

NIUCF further used the medium to reaffirm its confidence in the leadership capacity of Rep Sam Onuigbo and asked him to seek reelection to enable him also to consolidate on the visible and laudable gains already on the ground that have continued to enhance the welfare and development of the Ikwuano, Umuahia North and South local areas, adding that it would align with progressive-minded Abians and Nigerians in asking Onuigbo to seek reelection for continued development Abia Group lauds resumption of reconstruction work on Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road, applauds Onuigbo’s Effective representation non-visionary candidates on the Abia populaces who are yearning for total development in all strata of the state. Continuing, the Igbo forum also called on the contracting firm to hasten the reconstruction work on the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road to ease human and vehicular movements and ensure convergence of goods and services across the East of the Niger.

The group urged the people and residents of Umuahia-Ikwuano to cooperate with the contractor to enable the construction firm to realize the full completion of the road project.
