- Prof. Ibe Launches Free Medical, Surgical Outreach
In his bid to alleviate the suffering of the masses, the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in the Abia State gubernatorial race, Prof. Gregory Ibe has launched a free medical and surgical outreach.
This is in his extant efforts to save lives and at the same time promote
a healthy lifestyle among residents of the state.
According to a release signed by Prof. Greg’s Media, Rev. Sleek Ogbonnaya Ogwo, the Chancellor of Gregory University kick-started his annual Free Medical Outreaches at his Uturu country home and subsequently extended same across other neighbouring communities in the State.
The release read in detail:
According to the Roman poet Virgil, “ Health is the greatest wealth”. Which is why the bible in 3 John 2:1 says “I wish above all things that you might prosper and be in health”
It is therefore against the backdrop of the importance of good health that Prof Gregory Ibe, the Proprietor of Gregory University Uturu and Abia state governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) for the 2023 general elections initiated the Gregory Ibe Medical Outreach in 1991 as one of the philanthropic engagements of his humanitarian organization Gregory Iyke Foundation(GIF).
Leveraging the Gregory Iyke Foundation platform, Prof Gregory has continued to undertake annual free medical Outreaches, first within his native Uturu and subsequently across other neighboring communities, in line with the proverb,”Charity begins at home”.
However, inspired by a recent discovery that life expectancy in Abia state is as low as 59 years, and as way of intervening on the general problem of visible deficiency in the provision of needed medical solutions to Abians, Prof Ibe decided to repackage the free medical scheme and thus make the programme a state wide exercise, with the aim of extending the crucial health intervention to other communities, cities and Local Government Areas.
“To kick start this year’s programme Prof Ibe recently visited the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia where he settled the medical bills of many indigent patients, who had hitherto been held back in the facility after discharge due to their inability to liquidate their accounts.
“Subsequently, relying on his professional training as a Health Management officer and abundant medical personnel at Gregory University Teaching Hospital, he has designed this year’s edition of the free medical and surgical outreach to run in three phases, namely zonal, Local Government Areas and Wards. The objective being to leverage the social intervention programme in impacting the lives of Abians no matter where they are. Another important component of this year’s edition is the inclusion of surgical operations. Leveraging existing partnership with the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, the plan is to refer all surgical cases to that tertiary health institution for operation at the expense of Prof Gregory Ibe.
To ensure a smooth exercise a 50 man strong medical team comprising Medical Doctors, Ophthalmologists, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists, Nurses and Midwives have been assembled for the programme.
According to a calendar rolled out by the planning committee, the first phase of the 2022 edition, being the zonal stanza will commence today Tuesday 2nd and span through Sunday 7th August at four different locations in Umuahia, Isiala Ngwa South and Isiala Ngwa North, all in Abia Central Senatorial zone, where arrangements have been concluded to diagnose and treat the medical cases of participating ailing Abians.
“To commence the programme, all roads will lead to Okpara Square Event Centre Umuahia today Tuesday 2nd August 2022 where a team of officials from Gregory Iyke Foundation, Gregory University Uturu, Prof Gregory Ibe Campaign Organization and the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) led by the State Chairman Rev. Augustine Ehiemere will team up with the member representing Aba South in the Abia state House of Assembly and APGA Deputy Governorship Candidate Hon Obinna Ichita in flagging off the outreach on behalf of Prof Gregory Ibe.
“The general public, especially sick members of the society are thereby invited to avail themselves of this rare opportunity to receive medical treatment of all ailments and Surgical operations being delivered by Prof Gregory Ibe at no cost at all.”
