PROF IBE BAGS AWARD ON ARMED FORCES CELEBRATION

The Chancellor, Gregory University, Uturu Prof. Gregory Ibe has used the occasion of 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration to assure Abians of his commitment towards increasing the fortunes of the State and her people.

He made the assurance while receiving an award of MERIT OF EXCELLENCE bestowed on him during the Interdenominational service organised by the Government of Abia State and the Nigerian Legion Abia State held at Wesley Methodist Cathedral, number one Crowther Street, Umuahia, Abia State.

Prof. Ibe represented by the Chairman, Abia Crusaders Foundation, Hon Prince Emeka Okafor reiterated his efforts towards improving the lives of Abians especially in education and health which includes granting of 350 scholarship awards to undergraduates spread across the 17 local government areas of the State, powering a pet project, “Equip Abia State primary and secondary schools program”, provision of food stuffs to the 17 local government areas of the State donation of three (3) ambulances to the State during the Covid-19 lockdown. To mention but a few.

According to the erudite Professor, government cannot do all to bridge the yawning gaps in the State’s infrastructural needs and stressed that all hands should be on deck in making our State better.

He used the occasion to commend the Nigerian Legion Abia State chapter, promising to partner them in their areas of endeavour.

Earlier in his speech, the. State Governor, Okeźie Victor Ikpeaźu Ph. D, represented by his deputy,. Rt. Hon. Sir. Ude Okochukwu called for sustained prayers for God’s sustenance on them, and further promised that the present administration would continue to sustain its welfare packages to members of the Nigerian legion in Abia State.

In his homily, the Methodist bishop, Archbishop Chibuźor Opoko speaking on the theme: Lord give us men who are as courageous as David, appreciated the men of the Armed forces who sacrificed their lives for our sake and prayed God to continue protecting them as they constantly put their lives on the line in their service to their motherland.

In attendance at the service were Service Chiefs, members of the Nigerian Legion, top government functionaries and the press.
