Police Arrest, Remand Three for Violent Assault on Officers

Operatives of the Ondo State Police command has arrested three suspects over brutal assault on police officers performing their lawful duties around the Ijapo Estate of the state.

In a press statement e-signed and released to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP by the Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola stated that, “The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that on 5th October, 2025, at about 1700 hours, a distress call was received by the Ijapo Divisional Headquarters from a commercial motorcyclist (popularly known as Okada), reporting that police officers attached to Ijapo Estate were being violently attacked by a group of unidentified men.”

According to the statement, “In swift response, operatives from the Division and the patrol team were immediately mobilized to the scene. Despite initial resistance, the operatives, with the support of well-meaning residents, brought the situation under control and arrested three suspects identified as Odimgbe Blessing, Fred (surname unknown), and Odimgbe Stanley.”

“At the station, the suspects became violent, exhibiting behavior suggesting the influence of hard drugs. To maintain order and ensure proper investigation, they were transferred to the Anti-Cultism Unit for close monitoring. Preliminary findings, supported by video evidence, confirmed a brutal assault on police officers performing lawful duties. Consequently, the suspects have been charged to court and remanded in custody pending further hearing.”

“The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, condemned the unprovoked assault on police personnel, describing it as a grave affront to constituted authority and a criminal act that will not be tolerated. He issued a stern warning that anyone found attacking, obstructing, or intimidating police officers in the discharge of their lawful duties will face the full weight of the law.”

“CP Lawal reaffirmed his commitment to professional and accountable policing, emphasizing that any officer who violates citizens’ rights or engages in misconduct will face appropriate disciplinary action. He reiterated that respect for human rights and the rule of law remains central to policing under his leadership.”

“The Commissioner also expressed profound appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his visionary leadership and continuous support, which have greatly strengthened policing standards and boosted public confidence in the Force. He noted that the IGP’s emphasis on discipline, intelligence-led operations, and community partnership continues to inspire the Command’s successes across Ondo State.”

“CP Adebowale Lawal urged residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with the police by providing credible information that will assist in crime prevention and the protection of lives and property across the state.”
