High Chief Ezinne Mercy

It shall be a moment of emotions and celebration, as the remains of Ezinne (High Chief) Mercy Nma Okoro Ukandu, ‘Nne Muru Oha’ are returned to mother earth, on Friday, May 7, 2021.

And it will not be because the Matriarch of Okoro Ukandu missed celebrating her millenial birthday by a few years, no. Ezinne Mercy literarily rose from grass to grace. Hers was the life well lived.

Evidently, the officiating clerics would liken Ezinne to other heroic, virtous Biblical women like Deborah who lived a life of service to church and community, as she receives the last prayers by 10am on Friday, May 7, 2021, at Trinity Methodist Church, Amaoba Ime, Oboro.

Yes, her community, Amaoba Ime, Oboro in Ikwuano LGA would rise as one to bid adieu to an illustrious Ada, who they would fondly remember as Ezinne – Excellent mother – a title conferred on her by the Methodist Church in recognition of her dedication faith, and selfless service to the church and community

On the other hand, her six children – all distinguished in their own rights – would be celebrating a Sweet Mother who nurtured, motivated and urged them to reach for the stars. Perhaps, one of the names that would be sweet music to her ears would be being hailed ‘Mama General’. Yes, Major-General Okoro (rtd), her 6th son numbers amongst her high achieving children which includes Mr Godwin Nwankwo Okoro, a USA-based accountant.

The only privilege, Ezinne Mercy came to the world with, was to be born an ‘Ada’ – first daughter. She added so much value to her life and lives of those othets who came in contact with her, that she was honoured as Nne Muru Oha’ – Mother of all – as well
Ezinne Mercy’s sterling qualities includes courage, discipline and fearlessness. She was an epitome of honesty, and was always chosen as the Treasurer in the various groups she participated in.

The title ‘Nne Muru Oha’ was conferred on her by HRH Eze Douglas Nwosu, the traditional ruler of Amaoba in recognition of her transformational leadership and steadfastness in contributing to community development. Remarkably, she was the Woman Leader of Amaoba Ime Development Union for twenty years where her virtues of diligence, hard work, honesty, perseverance and disciple sparkled like diamonds.

Ezinne Mercy is survived by her six children, including Mr Godwin Nwankwo Okoro, Maj-Gen. Okoro (rtd); siblings and hosts of relations
