Nnamdi Kanu Names Wike, Umahi, Sanwo-Olu, Uzodimma as Witnesses in Explosive New Revelation

Nnamdi Kanu shocks Nigeria’s political circle as he names ministers Nyesom Wike and David Umahi, governors Sanwo-Olu and Uzodimma, and top Buhari-era security chiefs as witnesses in his terrorism trial.

In a dramatic twist in his ongoing terrorism trial, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has reportedly named two ministers in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, two serving governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and several top security figures from the Muhammadu Buhari administration as witnesses in his defence.

According to reports by Vanguard, Kanu filed a fresh motion before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, declaring his readiness to defend himself as ordered by the court.

The motion, which was personally signed by Kanu, was dated Monday, October 20, 2025, and officially filed on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. It follows an earlier court directive issued on October 16, 2025, mandating him to commence his defence by Friday, October 24, 2025.

In his submission, Kanu disclosed that he plans to call 23 witnesses, divided into two categories — “ordinary but material witnesses” and “vital and compellable witnesses,” the latter to be summoned under Section 232 of the Evidence Act, 2011.

He also requested a 90-day timeframe to conclude his defence, citing the extensive list of witnesses. The IPOB leader added that he would personally testify, “providing a sworn account of the facts, denying the allegations, and explaining the political context of his statements and actions.”

Among those listed as “compellable witnesses” are:

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

David Umahi, Minister of Works

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State

Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State

Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation

Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), former Minister of Defence

Yusuf Bichi, former Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS)

Kanu’s latest move has stirred fresh reactions across the political landscape, with observers describing it as a bold and strategic attempt to expose alleged government complicity in his prolonged detention.

Clash in National Assembly Over Kanu’s Health

Meanwhile, tension flared recently in the House of Representatives over Nnamdi Kanu’s deteriorating health condition.

Hon. Obinna Aguocha, representing Umuahia North/Umuahia South/Ikwuano Federal Constituency of Abia State, clashed with Speaker Abbas Tajudeen after demanding urgent intervention from the presidency. Aguocha revealed that he had written multiple letters to President Tinubu, the Attorney General of the Federation, and the Speaker concerning Kanu’s medical state, stressing that “his life must not be endangered under government custody.”
