Former APC Chairman Muhammadu Besse Dies in Bandits’ Captivity After Abduction in Kebbi

“Alhaji Muhammadu Mai Barga Besse, the immediate former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Koko/Besse Local Government Area of Kebbi State, has reportedly died in bandits’ captivity weeks after he was abducted. His death was confirmed after footage showing him and another captive being humiliated by bandits in the Birnin Gwari forest surfaced online.”

A former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State, Alhaji Muhammadu Mai Barga Besse, has died while in bandits’ captivity.

Besse, who previously led the APC in Koko/Besse Local Government Area of the state, was abducted earlier in June alongside another victim.

His death was confirmed on Tuesday by journalist Bakatsine, who reports on conflict and insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West region.
According to reports, the confirmation followed the emergence of a video showing Besse and another captive being subjected to humiliation by bandits in the Birnin Gwari forest.

In a statement shared on X, Bakatsine wrote: “DEVASTATING UPDATE: Alhaji Muhammadu Mai Barga Besse, the immediate former APC Chairman of Koko/Besse LGA in Kebbi State, has now also been confirmed dead in captivity.”

The journalist added that the two men seen in the circulated footage had lost their lives without reuniting with their families after their abduction.

The incident has further highlighted the persistent security challenges facing communities in northern Nigeria, where residents continue to face threats from criminal groups.

Meanwhile, condolences have continued to emerge following the reported death of the former APC chairman, with prayers offered for the deceased and comfort for his family.
