The immediate family of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, has appealed to the federal government of Nigeria, led by President Mohammadu Buhari to end military invasion in the environs, saying there is no war in the area.

Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of the IPOB who spoke on behalf of the family this afternoon, when Famous Reporters called in at the palace, regretted that the sporadic invasion of late Eze Israel I. O. Kanu’s vicinity, the father of Nnamdi Kanu by the Nigerian Army has left residents in a state of distress as community members, he said had their hearts in their mouths, hence the mission of the soldiers in the area remains unascertained.

Embittered by the incessant invasion of the Nigerian Army on  of his family, which he described as a glaring intimidation, Prince Emmanuel urged the Buhari led government to direct the military to the Northern part of the country wherein incidents of insecurity are on the increase, stressing that Afaraukwu Ibeku is a peaceful land, hence the military should be withdrawn.

“It’s all about intimidations by the military men, it’s about several embarrassment. That’s what has been going on the community. Every now and then, they keep invading this community as if there were any war whereas there is no war. So, the question is this, why then are they invading this community, for what reason?”

“They should channel their energy to the North and not here, that’s our position. So, the invasion must stop, they should stop it. All we’re asking for is to allow us do our burial, that’s all”

“There is no need for the invasion because there’s no war here, I keep saying it. They were heavily armed, well armed janjaweed Army, that’s what they are”, he cried out.

He, therefore, urged the general public and intending visitors not to misconstrue the happenings nor be deterred by the incident, saying “I don’t think they have the power to stop anyone from coming to see us if they want to do so. I believe it’s out of fear”, he added.

Furthermore, he assured their guest of uninterrupted security of their lives, adding “there lives are secured and more than secured. All we’re trying to do now is to gather information and evidence. Of course, Amnesty International is also involved in this both the EU and the rest of them”, he said.

Meanwhile, Famous Reporters recalled that the entire community members  of late king Israel O. Kanu whose burial has been slated for February 14, were engulfed in utter fear consequent on the presence of the fully armed Nigerian soldiers who flooded the area yesterday thus bringing to a standstill the movement and regular activities of the people.
