‘Love Is Blind’: Giannina and Damian’s Story Doesn’t End Like Netflix Showed

Yesterday, the finale of Love is Blind premiered and it did not go as expected. There were a few couples whose love stories did not quite end like viewers thought that they would. Giannina Gibelli and Damian Powers were one of those couples.

In the finale, Powers ended up turning Gibelli down and saying that he couldn’t marry her. Gibelli, then, ran out of the venue and down the street in tears. But that apparently isn’t the end of the couple’s story.

Damian and Giannina’s romance

Powers and Gibelli had one of the most intense relationships in the experiment. Gibelli was also the only girl to propose to her fiance. From that moment on, she took control of the relationship with her constant swings of emotions. Some days, she was happy with Powers, while other times she claimed that she had “lost her butterflies” and didn’t have feelings for him anymore.

One of the most cringeworthy moments of the season occurred when Gibelli told Powers that sex with him was less than great.

“You know how you tell me this is the best sex of your life?” she asked. “Have you noticed that I don’t return the compliment? I don’t say it’s the best sex of my life, too?”

Though Gibelli never seemed to be fully in the relationship, she ultimately decided to say “I Do” to Powers on their wedding day. Unfortunately, he didn’t return the favor.

How did Giannina feel about her wedding day?

Gibelli may have been hot and cold throughout her relationship with Powers, but he was all in from day one. So, his refusal to get married was shocking to everyone, including Gibelli.

“I had zero clue as to what was gonna happen that day,” she told Esquire. “I really, you know, I was just hoping for the best. I definitely was caught off guard.”

And the day was extremely hard for her parents to stomach.

“My mom especially,” Gibelli said of how hurt everyone was. “She says to this day it pains her to see her baby up there being rejected like that. And she’s my mom, she’s just gonna be the most supportive and on my side as much as possible.”

But overall, Gibelli is happy that Netflix showed all of the sides of her and Powers’ relationship, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

“It’s very real,” she said. “I don’t feel like it was portrayed in an unrealistic way. I think it was exactly what it was, and I think so many people go through challenges or obstacles related to that, not exactly in the way that we did, but people can always identify with it. Like, hey, it’s okay that we get into fights, it’s okay if we don’t agree on things, it’s just about how strong your love is. Overall I’m really happy with it.”

Are Damian and Giannina back together?

Though they didn’t get married during the season finale, people have been speculating that Powers and Gibelli are back together. When asked if she was still in contact with Powers, Gibelli said that the two talk all the time. When the interviewer pushed and asked if Gibelli had any new love interests, she gave a very interesting answer.

“No new love interests, no,” she said. “Just the same one.”
