Lagos Family in Melancholy As Flood Sweeps Children Away

The entire inhabitants of Alapere area of Lagos were on Saturday, thrown into a downright devastation as two children were swept away by to flood.


Reportedly, the entire area of Oyebanjo Street, Ketu was overflooded after the evening rains, making movement very difficult, resulting in the ugly incident at about 8:00pm.

Men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) combed the area with search parties in a bid to rescue the kids but their efforts were not successful. ‎

LASEMA Director-General, Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the development, explained that following a distress call, a joint team of responders comprising Lagos Fire Service and Lagos Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) rushed to the scene of the incident.

“The Agency’s tiger team commenced a search and rescue operation along the path of the floodwater. Initial observations revealed a sloping topography with a direct channel of drain water into the canal. This has proven to be rather challenging to navigate,” he said.

He urged members of the public to exercise caution in flood-prone and low lying areas.‎
