Following the arrest and subsequent elimination of some suspected armed robbery suspects in Umuahia, Abia State capital, the traditional ruler of Amuzukwu, Ibeku Autonomous Community and Chairman, Umuahia North LGA Council of Traditional rulers, Abia State has lauded the Nigeria Police Force, Abia State Command.
HRM Eze John Onyebuchi Ibezim, who consented to the notion that Umuahia is yet to be emancipated from crime and criminalities, commended the Nigeria Police in the state, under the leadership of CP Ene Okon in restoring relative tranquility in the area through the arrest of the dreaded notorious armed robbery gang.
Eze Ibezim argued that the dreaded hoodlums who had left many homes in trauma did not deserve the cost of judicial process, as the climax of their activities were the shooting of one Mr. Basil Odoemelam who was reported dead after a surgical process at FMC, Umuahia and the subsequent brutal murdering of Mr. & Mrs. Darlington Ezenwa in the presence of their kids in, after robbing them of their proceeds from the day’s sale.
He said:
“I was even told that one person escaped. If it’s on that particular case, I doff my hat for the police. I quite support the action of the police and even if they killed them because they don’t deserve the cost of judicial process and all what not. What are you keeping them for? That type of brutal murder of husband and wife before their children, how can you keep such people alive? What are they living for?”
“If there’s any punishment worse than death, they should face it. For that particular case, everybody in this town hailed the police for that action and we know the police have the capacity and training to fish out these hoodlums in our society. They know them”.
On the purportedly missing suspect who allegedly fled during a battle between the police and the gang at an undisclosed bush in Amakama Olokoro, Eze Ibezim reiterated that the fleeing suspect shall remain in his self- imposed exile t
” I don’t have details of the killing but if anybody escaped, the person is a member of the community, our own community, we should know him, if he ever escaped, he will escape forever and he will never come close to this environment anymore. That’s the only thing we’re sure of because everybody in this town shed tears over that incident
He, however, charged the police force and all security agencies to be proactive in their efforts to curb criminalitiy, saying “I quite congratulate them for a job well done and we wish they go further, there are many many more, not only when they commit the havoc. Arrest them before they become a problem to the society”.
