Kalu Applauds Alex Otti’s Inclusion of Bende in Abia Power Plan
President of the Emeka Charles Kalu Foundation (ECK), Chief Dr. Emeka Kalu, has commended the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, describing him as a “listening governor” following the inclusion of Bende Local Government Area in the state’s electricity roadmap.
This development comes shortly after Chief Kalu made a passionate appeal through an open letter, drawing attention to the urgent need for improved electricity supply in Bende — a challenge that has persisted for years.
Chief Kalu expressed gratitude to the Governor for his swift and decisive action, saying:
“Governor Alex Otti is a listening governor who remains focused on delivering the dividends of democracy and good governance to the people of Abia State despite distractions.”
He added that the Governor’s quick response to his call demonstrates a genuine commitment to fulfilling his promises.
“I am excited that this call was addressed so promptly,” Chief Kalu stated.
The inclusion of Bende in the electricity roadmap forms part of the state government’s broader initiative to ensure stable and sustainable power supply across Abia. Some key developments under this plan include:
Fund Release for Electricity Restoration: In September 2025, Governor Otti approved funds for the restoration of public electricity in Ohafia Local Government Area, with a target completion date of December 2025.
Expansion of Power Supply: The state government has also announced plans to acquire a 60% stake in the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) operations within Abia, to enhance consistent power supply across Abia North, including Ohafia and Bende.
Chief Kalu noted that the move reflects the Governor’s people-oriented approach and dedication to improving living standards in the state. He urged residents to continue supporting the administration, assuring them that Governor Otti is “working tirelessly to deliver on his promises.”
