Just In: Ohakim Narrowly Escapes Death In Gunmen Attack, Four Policemen Fear Dead

 

A yet to be identified gunmen, on Monday attacked a convoy of a former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, and killed four of his police orderlies in the process.

The awful incident took place at Oriagu, in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state on Monday’s evening.

Ohakim escaped through a ‘through a hair’s breadth’ whereas his backup vehicle was bombed by the gunmen thus leading to the death of the four policemen in his convoy.

According to the Punch, Ohakim was returning from a visit in the company of two of his children, when the gunmen struck.

A source close to the ex-governor disclosed that it took the brevity of the driver of the ex-governor for him to escape.

According to the source, “his excellency was the main target but his driver was smart enough to beat them because they were driving to block him.

“Disappointed that their main target had escaped, they blocked his backup vehicle and burnt it. The four policemen with him burnt.”

Meanwhile, it was gathered that a reinforcement came from Owerri, the state capital and escorted him to his house.

Ohakim who spoke to a Correspondent of the Punch in the State, was sober.
