JUST IN: Governor Fubara lands in Port Harcourt, resumes office
Finally, the long anticipated arrival of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has taken place, today, September 19, 2025.
It will be recalled that the Governor who had been at a loggerheads with his predecessor, the Minister of the federal capital territory (FCT) of Nigeria, Barr. Nyesom Wike, which incidentally resulted in his suspension from office for a period of six months.
Consequently, President Bola Tinubu, on March 19, 2025 sworn in Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (rtd) as sole administrator for Rivers State in Abuja.
However, in a turn of fate, President Tinubu announced in a statement he signed on Wednesday, September 17, that from the intelligence available to him, there was a new spirit of understanding.
President Bola Tinubu further said that Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly would resume work in their various offices beginning from September 18, 2025.

Adding, he said: “A robust readiness, and potent enthusiasm on the part of all the stakeholders in Rivers State for an immediate return to democratic governance”.
Meanwhile, there have been concerns over the absence of the governor after the departure of the sole Administrator of the state, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ekwe Ibas (rtd) following expiration of the emergency rule.
Supporters of the governor had trooped to the Government House, Port Harcourt, to welcome him back after the 6-month suspension.
However, they dispersed after waiting for several hours.
They had returned to Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, on Friday morning.
The plane which conveyed the governor to the airport touched down around mid-day.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries with his supporters whose faces beamed with intense joy and anticipations at the VIP wing of the Airport, the Governor went into one of the vehicles in his convoy and went out of sight.
Evidently, Fubara headed to the government house to resume as the duly elected Governor of the State.
