Insecurity In Imo: Youth Leader Calls Dor Calm In Niger Delta Areas Suggests possible measures to Governors

Following the extant insecurity in Imo State, the National Secretary of the Coalition of Niger Delta Youth Leaders (NDYL), Amb. Chibuzor Edwin Okolie has called for calm over the recent attack on the country home of the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Senator Hope Odidika Uzodinma, saying, what is happening now calls for sober reflection.

He made this call in a telephone interview with our Correspondent, Tuesday in Owerri, as he advised the entire Niger Delta Governors to convene without further delay, all stakeholders, security and economic summit in the nine States of the region.

“It has become pertinent that the Governors of the Niger Delta areas of the country convene a stakeholders meeting immediately without further wasting of time to abate further lose of lives and property.

“At the meeting, the economic downturn and the security challenges being encountered in the area and other states should be paramount at the summit.

“I wish to call on my fellow youths to always channel their grievances to the appropriate quarters for possible solutions and attention.

“Resorting to violence and destruction of our common patrimony or homes of those in leadership positions are not the right things to do, rather , the politicians may see it as another avenue towards enriching themselves with our common wealth.

Amb.Okolie, who contested for the Imo State House of Assembly seat to represent Oru -East State Constituency in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), imbibed the electorate to always chose politicians that would give them effective representation at all levels of political offices, adding that “another election is approaching and it is yet another ample opportunity to correct all the ills we are going through in Imo State, the Niger Delta region and Nigeria at large”.

Furthermore, he appealed for calm among those who are not happy with the system in one way or another, pointing out that “every challenge facing the people can still be solved with dialogue among them instead of taking to violence or resorting to self help which will affect everyone negatively in all angles”.

“This is the right time the Government at all levels must engage the masses who elected them in the first place, while in turn the electorate calls them for accountability periodically. This should be done beyond party affiliations, if we must get things working right again.
“Everyone is important during this trying period and the Government must do the needful”, just as he also implored the security agencies to do their jobs accordingly and stop accusing some people or groups over the incessant attacks without making thorough investigations as according to him, it would aggravate the situation at hand. Okolie reminded the youths that, they have common enemies who are the the Herders , whose stock in trade was to maim their relations and destroying farmlands, even as making claims that their natural inheritance were their birth rights,

“While we sue for peace in the Niger Delta areas and the South-East zones, we urge our leaders to solicit a better space in the contest that suits the future aspiration of our people. We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to be sure in engaging the people for a robost National dialogue as an option against military action over the citizenry, even as we solicit for better placement in the Nigerian contest in a bid to move the state forward”.
