Horror in Kira: CCTV Exposes Maid’s Brutal Abuse of 4-Year-Old Girl — Court Hands 40-Year Jail Term

“A wave of outrage has swept across Uganda after disturbing CCTV footage exposed the shocking abuse of a four-year-old girl by a trusted housemaid—an incident that has reignited urgent conversations about child safety, domestic worker vetting, and accountability.”

“A Ugandan court has sentenced housemaid Precious Tumuhirwe to 40 years in prison after CCTV footage showed her abusing a four-year-old girl in Kira Municipality. The case sparked nationwide outrage and renewed calls for stronger child protection measures.”

KIRA MUNICIPALITY, Wakiso District — A 35-year-old housemaid, identified as Precious Tumuhirwe, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after disturbing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage revealed her assaulting a four-year-old girl in her care.

The incident, which occurred on December 27, 2024, at a residence in Kikoko Zone, Namataba Cell, Kirinya Ward, Kira Municipality, sparked widespread condemnation from the public, authorities, and child rights advocates.

According to police reports, the footage captured Tumuhirwe subjecting the young child to severe physical abuse inside a bathroom. The child was seen crying in distress, prompting immediate alarm after the video circulated online.

Tumuhirwe, who had reportedly worked for the family for about four years, fled the residence shortly after the incident. She was later arrested in Kabale District while attempting to board a bus and was detained at Kabale Central Police Station before being transferred back to Kira Municipality.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that authorities launched a full investigation into the case, stating that the suspect was charged with “aggravated torture,” a serious offence under Ugandan law.

The victim was rushed to Nsambya Hospital, where she received medical attention for her injuries. Police also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of child abuse.

Reportedly, Tumuhirwe initially denied the allegations, claiming the child’s injuries resulted from a fall. However, during interrogation, she later admitted to the abuse and pleaded for forgiveness from both the family and the public.

The case triggered widespread outrage on social media, with many calling for stricter monitoring of domestic workers and stronger child protection systems.

In January 2025, Tumuhirwe appeared before the Kira Court, where she pleaded guilty to the charge. The presiding magistrate sentenced her to 40 years’ imprisonment, emphasizing the gravity of the offence and reinforcing a zero-tolerance stance on child abuse.
