Four Siblings Die in Nyahururu House Fire as Parents Attend Church
Four young siblings, including a one-and-a-half-year-old toddler, have lost their lives in a devastating house fire in Kenya after reportedly being left locked inside their family home.
Four siblings aged one to nine have died in a house fire at Muhindi Market, near Nyahururu, Kenya. The children were reportedly trapped inside their locked family home while their parents attended church.
A devastating house fire in Muhindi Market, near Nyahururu town in Kenya’s Nyandarua County, has claimed the lives of four young siblings, leaving their family and community in deep mourning.
The children reportedly died on Sunday, October 25, 2026, after a fire engulfed their family’s timber house while their parents were away attending a church service.
The victims were identified as Stephen Wahome, 9; Joseph Mwangi, 5; Polycap Thiong’o, 4; and Angel Annah Mumbi, aged one and a half.
According to reports, the children were inside the house when the fire broke out at approximately 1:15 p.m. Their parents had reportedly secured the building with a padlock from outside before leaving for church.
The flames quickly spread through the wooden structure, trapping the children inside and leaving them with little chance of escape.
Firefighters from Nyahururu, alongside residents who rushed to help, eventually brought the inferno under control. However, all four children had died before they could be rescued.
Police officers who arrived at the scene recovered the bodies from the remains of the burnt building. They were subsequently taken to the Nyahururu County Referral Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
Police Investigate Cause of Deadly Fire
Preliminary investigations have reportedly shown that the house had no electricity connection. Officers also found no gas cylinder or charcoal stove inside the building, leaving investigators searching for the possible cause of the fire.
The children’s parents have reportedly been listed as persons of interest as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Investigators are particularly examining how the children were left inside the locked house without adult supervision and what might have triggered the fire.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through Muhindi Market, with residents reportedly devastated by the loss of the four siblings. Neighbours were said to have been unaware that the children were trapped inside until the fire had spread.
Beyond the immediate grief, the incident has renewed concerns about child safety and the dangers of leaving young children unattended, especially in buildings secured from the outside.
As investigations continue, the community is left grappling with the heartbreaking loss of four young lives, while condolences and messages of sympathy continue to reach the bereaved family.
