Four Gospel Artistes Found Dead in Lagos Studio After Overnight Stay in Ajah
A tragic incident has shaken the gospel music community following the discovery of four lifeless bodies inside a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, Lagos State.
The deceased have been identified as gospel artiste Matthew Ogundele, alongside his crew members Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and blogger Matthew Awosanya, popularly known as JoesTv.
Reports indicate that the victims were invited to minister during a three-day birthday praise programme organised by female gospel artiste Olanireti Akinbola. The event commenced on Monday, with the group scheduled to perform on Tuesday.
According to a police source, the performance session ran late into the night, prompting the artistes to remain in the studio overnight. Their bodies were reportedly discovered the following morning.
Sources revealed that the group allegedly chose to stay back at the studio due to the distance between the venue and their residences.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that the case was reported at the Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah, by the studio owner, Akintayo Akinbola, who is also the husband of the celebrant.

Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed that the studio owner had earlier purchased food for the artistes before leaving them at the facility on Tuesday night. He reportedly returned around 11 a.m. on Wednesday and found the studio door locked from the inside. After raising an alarm, the door was forced open, leading to the discovery of the four bodies.
Preliminary observations revealed no visible signs of physical violence. The remains were subsequently moved to Mainland Hospital, Yaba, where medical personnel confirmed the deaths. The bodies have since been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
Authorities confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.
Meanwhile, colleagues and associates of the deceased have taken to social media to mourn the victims and call for a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Images circulating online reportedly showed signs that have sparked public concern and speculation.
Investigations are ongoing as the music and Christian communities await official findings from medical and law enforcement authorities.
