Fidelity Bank Distributes 2,500 Food Packs to Edo Families in Food Security Drive

For more than 2,500 families in Edo State, a food pack from Fidelity Bank is more than a donation—it is timely relief for households facing the rising pressure of putting food on the table.

Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed 2,500 food packs to beneficiaries across eight communities in Uromi and Irrua, Edo State, as part of its Fidelity Food Bank initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable families and tackling food insecurity.

The intervention was carried out at the Uromi Town Hall in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.

It forms part of the bank’s wider Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to support vulnerable communities and improve the wellbeing of families across Nigeria.

Speaking at the distribution event, the Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the intervention was designed to make a meaningful difference in the lives of beneficiaries.

“Today’s distribution will provide over 2,500 beneficiaries with essential food supplies. This event goes beyond the distribution of food items; it is about uplifting lives, strengthening communities and supporting families with resources that contribute to their wellbeing and resilience,” Nwagboh said.

According to him, the intervention also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2), which focuses on ending hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture.

He explained that the Uromi intervention was designed to reach families across eight communities and provide immediate assistance to those affected by food insecurity.

Nwagboh further disclosed that 10,000 food packs are distributed every month through the Fidelity Food Bank programme.

The programme, he said, works with 19 partners across Nigeria to reach communities where the need for food support is greatest.

The intervention also received commendation from the Edo State Government.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, represented by the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Jerry Uwangue, praised Fidelity Bank for extending the humanitarian initiative to residents of Uromi.

Uwangue said the intervention demonstrated the important role corporate organisations can play in improving community wellbeing, particularly at a time when families are faced with increasing demands on their resources.

“At a time like this, when family needs come first, this act of kindness demonstrates that corporate organisations have a vital role to play in the wellbeing of our communities,” he said.

“On behalf of our Governor and the good people of Edo, particularly the people of Uromi, I thank Fidelity Bank for this remarkable demonstration of corporate responsibility and generosity. We encourage other corporate organisations to emulate this worthy example by giving back to the people and communities where they operate,” he added.

Food Packs Bring Relief to Beneficiaries

For the beneficiaries, the intervention offers practical support at a time when providing daily meals remains a major concern for many households.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to Fidelity Bank and its partners for the gesture, saying the food packs would provide meaningful relief and help ease the burden of feeding their families.

The Fidelity Food Bank programme was introduced in April 2023 as one of Fidelity Bank’s flagship CSR initiatives.

The programme was established to help reduce hunger and malnutrition while supporting communities facing food insecurity.

Since its inception, the initiative has distributed more than 300,000 food packs to beneficiaries across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

The latest intervention in Edo adds to the bank’s continuing food support programme across the country.
