FENRAD Set to Commence “Security, Civic Space, People” Radio Programme in Abia State, S/E Nigeria
The Foundation for Environmental Rights, Advocacy & Development (FENRAD) has, amidst greeat elation, announced the launch of a new public-interest radio programme titled “Security, Civic Space & the People”.
According to a release signed by Chika Okoroafor, the Communication Officer, the programme is aimed at deepening civic engagement, promoting accountable governance, and strengthening community-security relations across Southeast Nigeria.
The release further states that the groundbreaking programme will air weekly on SUN FM 91.9 the leading lights of the Airwaves, situated at 133, Aba/ Owerri Road, Aba, the commercial hub of Abia state.
Moreover, the programme is designed to serve as a platform for open dialogue on human rights, security sector reforms, civil-military relations, democratic accountability, and public participation in governance.
The release read in part:
“We’re creating a space where citizens, security agencies, civil society, and policymakers can listen, learn, and lead together,” said Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, Executive Director of FENRAD. “At a time when civic space is shrinking and insecurity rising, this programme will offer a voice to the people and a channel for solutions.”
“This is the continuation of the Security Playbook and civic future Project with funding by Fund for Global Human Rights and supported by ACTION GROUP ON FREE CIVIC SPACE ( AGFCS) and SPACES FOR CHANGE ( S4C)

The radio series is part of FENRAD’s broader mandate to:
Defend and expand civic freedoms.
Advocate for police and justice-sector reforms.
Promote transparency and community-driven security responses.
Educate citizens on their constitutional rights and responsibilities.
Each episode will feature:
Expert interviews with lawyers, activists, security personnel, and policy leaders.
Community voices from affected regions.
Legal education segments to build civic awareness.
Call-ins and Q&A for direct public engagement.

The programme draws from FENRAD’s recent multi-stakeholder dialogues on security and human rights in the Southeast, and aligns with its mission to build a just, inclusive, and secure society.
