Father of lady found dead in Anambra hotel cries for justice… As Cosmilla Hotel contradicts self
Mr. Patrick Awuda, father of Chinyere Awuda, 27, who was found dead at Cosmilla Hotel, Awka, last Monday, has wailed that the untimely death of their daughter had thrown the entire family and close relatives into a deep state of melancholy.
Awuda, 79, a native of Nnobi in Idemili South Local Government Area, while speaking to journalists in Awka, Sunday, implored the Anambra State Government and the Nigerian Police to obtain justice for his daughter whom he lamented was forcefully sent to her undue grave.
Famousreporters.com reports that a birthday party held at Cosmilla Hotel in Awka, Anambra State had turned bitterly as a young lady, Miss Awuda was allegedly beaten to death at the poolside of the hotel, last Saturday’s night, during the said celebration.
Reportedly, the deceased, a native of Idemmili South Local Government Area of Anambra State was accused of picking up money some friends of the celebrant had sprayed on the latter while he was dancing during his birthday party at the hotel.
Reports had it that the lifeless body of the victim was found floating on the swimming pool of the hotel, the following morning, where she was allegedly dumped, with bruises visibly seen on her body.
According to an eyewitness: “The girl was at the club when trouble broke out, and a man and his friends started beating her after she was accused of picking money they were spraying on their friend who was celebrating his birthday.
“They accused her of picking money which they were spraying on their friend while some said she did not only pick money from the floor but went for bundles of money, which one of them stacked by his seat side, waiting to spray on the celebrant.
“The girl was beaten when they caught her but despite efforts made by other people in the hotel to rescue the girl, they continued to beat and molest her.
“She was later dragged outside the club, and her lifeless body dumped into the hotel’s swimming pool”, the source said.
Reacting to the widespread reports, the management of Cosmila Hotel had last Monday, refuted the statement, insisting that late Miss Chinyere Awuda popularly known as “Miss Chizzy” was not beaten to death by anyone at Cosmila Hotel in Awka.
According to the hotel,
“As a matter of fact, the said event never happened at Cosmila hotels, it happened at a club house owned by cosmila as a company as also confirmed by the police.
“Findings from For the Love of Anambra shows that Miss Chizzy’s death was not due to any altercations or physical assualt as widely reported.
“Fun seekers at the club were spraying money on a celebrant who was celebrating the launch of his new clothing brand. Chizzy who was at the arena was sighted picking this monies which were clearly not hers. She did not only pick some sprayed money from the ground, she also went for bundles of money, which was gifted to the celebrant and he kept it by his seat side.
“A fun seeker who was monitoring the situation called the attention of the fun seekers and on being noticed, Miss Chizzy took to her heels and in the process went to hide at the old swimming pool which was no longer in use. She will later be discovered dead the next morning”. Those were the words of the Management of the hotel where the said party was held.
However, the
Narrating his ordeal, Elder Awuda said the death of Chinyere had left the family broken.
He explained that his daughter who graduated from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, did not deserve to die the way she did and called on relevant authorities to ensure that her killers are brought to justice.
According to him: “On that Monday morning, I called to check on her as she usually does but after several calls, Chinyere did not respond.
“We were later taken to the hotel but were made to wait until 4 pm when a police team came and asked if we wanted to see Chinyere.
“They took us to the abandoned swimming pool and led me in and I saw the lifeless body of Chinyere with physical injuries. They refused to [let us] take pictures and quickly moved her to the morgue.”
He said further: “My daughter is a likeable person, she is not a thief as alleged, no evidence to show that she stole. She is a murder victim, that is why we are calling for a thorough investigation of this matter. “
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer of Anambra State Police Command, had earlier DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident.
He disclosed that the birthday celebrator and his friends were already in police custody while the case is being investigated.
Ikenga said, “Four suspects are in our custody in connection with the incident, the hotel management assisted the police in arresting the suspects and investigation is still ongoing. Further details shall be communicated please.”
THE CONTRADICTIONS
Whereas the perceived authentic reports states that a birthday party was held at Cosmilla Hotel, in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, the management of the hotel has informed that there was nothing like a birthday party held in the premises.
Cosmilla Hotel, according to the report as obtained from For The Love Of Anambra, it was rather a celebration of the launch of a new clothing brand that took place on the spot.
This glaring contradiction has evidently left the general public in a state of utter worry as to what is really in the offing, as even the police have confirmed having in custody the said birthday celebrant.
This is truly a worrisome situation as such has not been once mentioned in the history of the Igbo race, hence a guest being brutally assaulted to death for merely picking up sprayed money during a celebration.
