Umuahia North Traditional Rulers Council: Eze Nwigwe Emerges Chairman
HRH Eze Innocent Nwaigwe, the traditional ruler of Okaiuga Alaike autonomous community in Ohuhu Umuahia North Local Goverment Area of Abia State, has emerged the chairman of Umuahia North council of traditional rulers.
According to the sequence, the leadership of the Council comprises three Executive positions, while the seat of Chairman was ceded to Ohuhu Clan, vice chairman Ibeku, Pro Ibeku
While, in Ohuhu, two candidates who emerged for Chairmanship position were; Eze Innocent Nwigwe and Eze Bobby; Aguocha; for Vice Chairmanship, Eze Donatus Aguiyi and Eze Philip Ukaegbu emerged from Ibeku clan; candidates for Treasurership of Ohuhu Clan were Eze Kingsley Emeka Obun and Eze Elijah Udoka; whereas HRH, Eze Chiabuotu Emenike of Ohuhu Clan was elected Secretary of the Council unopposed.
According to the results as announced by the presiding officer and the first deputy chairman of Abia State council of traditional rulers, HRH Eze Nelson Emerengwa, emerged Chairman having won 18 votes, defeating Eze Aguocha who won 14 votes.
Similarly, Eze Ukaegbu emerged Vice Chairman, having amassed 18 votes as against his opponent, Eze Donatus Aguiyi who got 14 votes.
Also, the council’s treasurer. HRH Eze Godswill Asumugha,
was elected as the organizing secretary and HRH Eze Joshua Akomas, as the Public Relations Officer respectively.
Speaking shortly after the election the presiding officer and the first deputy chairman of Abia State council of traditional rulers HRH Eze Nelson Emerengwa, said the election was peaceful, free and fair.
He added that the traditional rulers conducted themselves with decorum inline with the rules of the election.
He said, “I’m wishing the new chairman and his team goodluck and at the same time urging him to conduct himself in manner that would paint the traditional institution in a good light. I want them to work in harmony with other traditional rulers in other Local Goverment Areas”.
In his acceptance speech Eze Nwaigwe, thanked the traditional rulers in the council for electing him.
He pledged to work in synergy with his colleagues for the good of all and sundry.
“On behalf of all those who contested and won, I want to inform us that we shall all work together in unity. And for my colleagues who participated in this exercise, I want to assure you that you shall be also part of our Executives.
“I’ll grow and surpass the achievements of my predecessor, Eze John Ibezim.”
Earlier in his valedictory speech, the outgoing chairman, HRH, Eze John Ibezim thanked God for His sustaining grace all through his period of leadership of the Council, as he prayed also for same grace and wisdom
“What we have come to do today is a thing of joy and happiness. It is an exercise that is hoped to intensify the unity of our Council and we pray that God Almighty grant us the needed wisdom to conduct the election peacefully and harmoniously.”
“We expect you to make your tenure better than ours. We have tried our best and we believe you’ll do better than us. We have faith that God would continue to keep us in this incoming administration.”
Addressing Journalists, Eze Ibezim Ibezim, expressed confidence in his successor, saying, “he has all it takes to achieve enviable results for the council.”
In a remark HRH Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu, the chairman supreme council of South East traditional rulers and chairman Ohuhu traditional rulers council
said the election was conducted in a peaceful manner, devoid of rancor.
According to him,”we are very happy with the election across board, those elected were the people that indicated their interest and we supported them. All our traditional rulers are good and I know that those who didn’t win in today’s election will win the future.
“I advise those who were elected today to carry everyone along. There should be no discrimination among the traditional rulers.
“We will work with them and support all they will do to support the government. The new chairman is an experienced man and I know he will do his best to carry the council to a greater height”.
