A famous Nollywood Actor, has urged the Federal government of Nigeria to invite personnel with expertise in security to orientate the Nigeria Police, saying it will help restore the lost sanity into the system.Brenda Eve Ndukwe (Akwaugo) popularly known in the industry as Mama G junior of Oboro, in Ikwuano LGA of Abia state, gave this hearty advice while reacting to the indiscriminate use of firearms by men of the Nigeria Police on unarmed, innocent Nigerians as is being sung in the mouth of all and sundry.
The Akwaugo 1 of Ikwuano who is currently the Financial Secretary, Actors Guild of Nigeria, Delta state decried the rising intimidation and victimisation of Nigerians especially the youths in the gory hands of the just disbanded SARS, a certain unit of the Nigeria Police and indeed the entire members of the system.
She enjoined the Buhari led government to, as a matter of urgency deploy the services of advanced security personnel from international communities to orientate the Special Anti-robbery Squad, SARS which is perceived to have metamorphosed to Special Weapons And Tactics, (SWAT) unit.
“Even if there’s going to be a reformed SWAT, my advice is they should give them a better orientation. But, sometimes, I ask myself, who are the people that will train them? Is it not the same people that trained the SARS? That’s the problem I have. If they can invite experts to give this people a proper training on how to effectively carry out their jobs without hurting or harassing anybody and shun all manners of brutality.
“The thing is that I actually participated because we had a lot of protests over there in Asaba, Delta State, organized by some of the Nollywood Artistes among whom I was one.
“I also led a group of youths in Delta State during one of the #EndSars protest to Delta Broadcasting Service, (DBS) so they can make there voices heard through the media and not just to go look for any government official that might not pass there message across to the right person, Governor Okowa and it was a peaceful protest”, she affirmed
Mama G Junior who condemned in totality the brutality and demeaning attitude of the Nigeria Police towards the citizenry, insisted on a downright reformation of the system, hence #Endsars protests across the nation and some international communities.
“Their attitude has been very awful especially the way they have been treating the youths some of who between 15 and 17years old. But, simply because the person is neatly dressed, they tag him “Yahoo boy”. This is a bad thing; it’s appalling.
The Artiste in her emotional state, expressed acrimony towards the illicit behaviour of members of the proscribed unit of the Police Force, ranging from unlawful harassment of innocent citizens who have not been found culpable of cybercrime, the use of the POS in broad daylight to extort money from their victims, maiming and extrajudicial killings, and a lot more.
Hear her: ‘I don’t know if somebody should not dress well again, wear dread or tattoos anymore. All these things were done before and I can’t imagine a group of SARS carrying POS around and harassing innocent youths. So, I am in support of this #Sars protest.
Furthermore, Brenda Eve commended all Nigerian celebrities, describing their unalloyed support and unhesitant participation alongside every well-meaning Nigerian in the nationwide #EndSars protests as a glaring proof of oneness.
On the impacts of the protests, she said: “Even if they change SARS to SWAT or whatever, the thing is that with what Nigerians have done, coming together as one, this is my first time in the history of Nigeria, seeing our people come out to protest, it shows that we’re in unity. It shows we’re progressing and that’s Nigeria is becoming great.
Meanwhile, she implored Nigerian youths to abstain from crime and illegalities, while advising them to remain law abiding at all times.
