2027: Emeka Atuma Defeats Sam Onuigbo to Clinch APC Abia Central Senatorial Ticket

Former member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Emeka Atuma, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Abia Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atuma secured a landslide victory in the direct primary election conducted across the various wards in the six local government areas that make up the senatorial district.
The former federal lawmaker defeated the immediate past member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Sam Onuigbo, to clinch the party’s senatorial ticket.
Atuma, who is also the President of the Grace Movement, was widely perceived by party faithful as a formidable contender ahead of the exercise. His victory is already generating reactions across the state’s political landscape.
According to the official results announced by the Collation Officer, Thomas Nkoro, Atuma polled a total of 36,935 votes across Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Ikwuano, Osisioma Ngwa, Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Areas.
Nkoro, while announcing the outcome of the exercise at the APC secretariat in Umuahia, said:
“Atuma pulled a total of 36,935 votes from the six local government areas of Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Ikwuano, Osisioma, Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South.”
Meanwhile, Rt. Hon. Sam Onuigbo reportedly polled 5,833 votes in the keenly contested exercise.
Following the conclusion of the primaries, the APC in Abia State urged aggrieved aspirants in the House of Representatives primary election to formally submit their complaints to the National Assembly Primaries Appeal Committee.
The party disclosed that the appeal committee had already commenced sitting to receive and review petitions arising from the exercise.
According to the party, the committee comprises Hon. Chris Dajan as Chairman, alongside Martha Moses, Obioma Madukwe and Uzoma Ogu as members.
It would be recalled that the APC conducted its House of Representatives primary elections on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
