Her screams alerted neighbours. Her last words told the story. A domestic violence attack in Ogun has left a family destroyed.
A middle-aged man, Ayoola Ayanwale, has allegedly killed his wife, Ganiyat Ayanwale, in the presence of their children before later taking his own life in Ogun State.
A photograph of the couple, now circulating online, was reportedly taken on Sunday, January 4, 2026, the first Sunday of the year.
The incident, however, took a tragic turn on Thursday, January 8, 2026, when Mrs. Ayanwale, a mother of three, was pronounced dead at about 8:30 p.m. at Gifted Hands Hospital, where she was rushed following a brutal attack by her husband.
Sources disclosed that the suspect allegedly locked their children in a room at their residence in River Valley Estate, Ogun State, before attacking his wife with a knife.
Mr. Ayanwale, described by neighbours as a “serial wife beater,” was said to have initially attempted to force his wife to ingest a poisonous substance, an effort that reportedly failed.
He allegedly resorted to stabbing her multiple times, while her screams and distress calls alerted neighbours, who raised the alarm.
While being rushed to the hospital by responders, Mrs. Ayanwale was reported to have said, “I just entered the house. He attacked me,” shortly before she succumbed to her injuries.
Further findings revealed that about 12 hours later, Mr. Ayanwale was discovered in an open field in Sotubo, a suburb of Ogun State.
According to reports, he was found gasping for breath and was later pronounced dead in what authorities believe to be suicide.
Items recovered from the scene included a bottle containing a suspected liquid substance, two mobile phones, a voter’s card, and an ATM card.
Meanwhile, investigations into the tragic incident are ongoing.
