Breaking: Russia Foils Massive Ukrainian Drone Attack, 296 Drones Downed
Russia’s air defense systems successfully repelled a large-scale drone attack launched by Ukraine overnight, with a total of 296 drones shot down across 13 Russian regions.
The attack, which occurred between 18:00 GMT on Tuesday and 07:00 GMT on Wednesday, did not result in any reported damage or casualties.
The drones targeted various regions, including areas near Moscow, with 12 drones intercepted over the capital, prompting temporary flight suspensions at Vnukovo and Zhukovsky airports. The Bryansk region, located near the Ukrainian border, was the most heavily targeted, with 59 drones shot down.
This development comes amid escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with both countries engaging in cross-border attacks. Recently, Ukraine repelled Russia’s largest missile and drone assault since the war began, with over 900 drones launched in a three-day period. Russia’s tactics have shifted towards using drones over costly cruise missiles, aiming to overwhelm Ukrainian air defenses.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been ongoing, with both sides accusing each other of aggression. Russian President Vladimir Putin recently visited the Kursk region, where a disputed helicopter attack allegedly took place. Ukrainian officials deny any involvement in the incident. There are conflicting claims about what happened during Putin’s visit, with some Russian media outlets reporting a large-scale drone attack, while Ukrainian officials call it a “lie”.
Meanwhile, the US President, Donald Trump has expressed frustration with Putin’s actions, calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Trump has hinted at imposing new sanctions on Russia and is considering lifting restrictions on Western weapons use.
Speaking, he said:
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him,” Trump said.

Continuing, Trump regretted that:
“He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever.”
The Kremlin downplayed Trump’s statements, suggesting he was merely frustrated by the pace of the ongoing peace talks. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the talks went “hand in hand with an emotional overload of absolutely everyone and with emotional reactions.” Putin continued to claim Russia is the aggrieved party, echoing longstanding Kremlin narratives.
