Roger Lukaku, the father of Romelu has joined his ancestors at the age of 58-years.
The shocking death news of the famous footballer has thrown the world of football into a mourning state.
Roger Menama Lukaku was the former Zaire international striker but has regrettably passed away at the age of 58.
He was the father of Romelu and Jordan Lukaku, the renowned Belgian international footballers.
Lukaku took his last breath yesterday , Sunday, September 28 2025, in his hometown of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire).
The devastating news of his demise was confirmed by his son, Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku, who shared a deeply emotional tribute on social media early on Monday.
Expressing his grief amidst dismay, the son who profoundly thanked his late father for all his sacrifices geared towards raising him up death laid its cold hands on him, Romelu reiterated his eternal gratitude to his father.
The hearty tribute read thus:
“Thank you for teaching me everything I know. I’m forever grateful and appreciate you. Life will never be the same,” Romelu wrote in a heartbreaking post.
Adding, he said, “Protecting and guiding me like no one else could, won’t be the same. The pain and tears are flowing big time. But God will give me the strength to get myself back together. Merci pour tout.”
Roger Lukaku enjoyed a notable career as a professional footballer, primarily in Belgium during the 1990s.
He represented several clubs, including FC Boom, Seraing, Germinal Ekeren, KV Mechelen, and KV Oostende.
He also had a spell in Turkey with Gençlerbirliği.
On the international stage, Lukaku earned a total of 11 caps for the Zaire national team, having participated in the African Cup of Nations tournaments in 1994 and 1996.
