BREAKING NEWS: Man Who Beheaded Ex-Imo Council Boss, Ohizu Confesses After 2yrs

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma says the hoodlum who brutally murdered and beheaded the former council chairman in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, Christopher Ohizu has finally been apprehended, after two years of intensive search.

According to the Governor, the suspect has also confessed to the heinous crime.

This was disclosed by the governor in a video shared by Channels Television while addressing the prolonged search for the perpetrators behind the terrific killing which occurred in the year 2023.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has disclosed that the suspect responsible for the gruesome murder and beheading of a former council chairman in Ideato North Local Government Area, Christopher Ohizu has been apprehended and has confessed to the crime.

“We were here sometimes two years ago when a council chairman was beheaded in Ideato North,” Uzodinma recalled. “Two years later, we have arrested the man who beheaded him and the man has confessed.”

Although Uzodinma did not reveal the identity of the suspect or details of the confession, he stated that the arrest was a significant step in the state government’s continued efforts to combat insecurity and bring justice to the families of victims of political violence and banditry in the state.

According to the publication, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ogwuike Nwachukwu, said the Governor alleged that some politicians were behind the insecurities in the state.

The governor emphasised his administration’s commitment to eliminating criminalities criminal elements in the state and restoring lasting peace. “We are determined to ensure that no crime goes unpunished in Imo State,” he declared.

The Governor , according to him, further asserted that some politicians were making frantic efforts to frustrate his administration’s efforts in restoring peace and calm in the state.

He said: “Uzodimma who could not hide his anger in his remarks after Mass at the Government House Chapel over the dastardly act and the security situation in the State, hinted that some wicked politicians are bent on frustrating the efforts of the government to restore peace and security in Imo State.”

“He recalled with sadness the incident that happened two years ago when a Local Government Chairman was beheaded in Ideato North, noting that, “two years after, we have arrested the man who beheaded him and the man has confessed as the one who did it and has mentioned some individuals that he is working for.”

“Some of them have been invited by the police and they are under interrogation.”

“The Governor stressed that the government will stop at nothing to ensure that those who had a hand in the dastardly act face the wrath of the law, “as many more will be invited.”

“It is not enough for people to come around me here to pretend to be working for me when they are busy participating in conspiracy, eliminating innocent lives and trying to pull down government,” an angry Uzodimma voiced out and assured that “activity to make Imo State safe and secure will continue despite all odds.”

“Within the next two weeks, every community in the State will have a functional Vigilance Group that is supported and funded by the government with every logistics in place for their operations.”

“He sought for the cooperation of all to ensure that the exercise is successful, warning those in the habit of frustrating the government’s good intentions, often for political interest, to desist in their own interest.

“The Governor reminded those who have started heating the polity in Imo State to wait for the appointed time.”

RECALL
Ohizu, who served as the chairman of the LGA, was abducted and executed by beheading in January, 2023, during the period of hike in insecurity in the southeast region of Nigeria.

His captors who subjected him to torture, compelled him to recite his final prayer before perpetrating the act, which was recorded on video.

The act of his beheading elicited widespread public outrage, as his murderers immediately took to their heels.

Meanwhile, as investigations into the crime subsist, further details of the prosecution of the suspect and possibly his identity shall be revealed.
