
United States President-elect Joe Biden has named a Nigerian, Adewale Adeyemo, as Deputy Treasury Secretary along with four women as key members of his economic team.
‘Wally’, who is president of Obama Foundation in Chicago, would be serving under Janet Yellen, named as the Treasury Secretary.
If confirmed, the Nigerian would be first black deputy treasury secretary.
Adeyemo served on the National Economic Council of the Obama administration.
Biden also appointed Neera Tanden to lead the Office of Management and Budget, elevating the CEO and president of the left-leaning Centre for American Progress, to the top ranks of his administration.
She would be the first woman South Asian American to become director of the Office of Management and Budget if confirmed by the Senate.
He equally named Cecilia Rouse, a Princeton economist, as leader of Council of Economic Advisers.
Biden also named Jared Bernstein, his long-time economic adviser, as member of the council.
The President-elect announced Heather Boushey, who has been one of his chief economic policy advisers during the campaign, as a member of the council too.
The new team is to be formally introduced by Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris during an event today in Wilmington, Delaware, according to the transition panel.
