Bandits Kill Four From Same Family in Overnight Attack on Kachia, Southern Kaduna

Tragedy has struck Kachia town in southern Kaduna following a deadly overnight attack by suspected bandits that claimed the lives of four members of a single family.

The attack occurred late on Friday night in Kachia, the headquarters of Kachia local government area, located close to the newly established Federal University of Applied Science. Family sources identified the victims as Mr Bitrus Bahago, his wife, Justina, their son, Ibrahim, and a relative, Adam Waziri.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that a large group of armed men stormed the community under the cover of darkness and opened fire indiscriminately on residents, sparking panic and confusion.

The midnight raid plunged the town into terror, leaving several other residents with varying degrees of gunshot wounds. The injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment as the attackers eventually withdrew from the area.

Despite Kachia’s proximity to major institutions and security formations, residents expressed deep frustration over the recurring nature of such attacks. As of Saturday, the Kaduna state police command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident, leaving the community to mourn its losses amid fear and uncertainty.

Southern Kaduna continues to grapple with persistent insecurity, as the latest killings come amid a string of similar attacks across the region. Only recently, another violent raid was reported in the Bukkah community of Chikun local government area, where heavy gunfire forced residents to flee into surrounding forests in search of safety.

Due to the difficult terrain and the immediate risk of ambush, security forces were reportedly unable to respond swiftly, resulting in the abduction of seven villagers, including several women.

In Chikun local government area, the wave of insecurity has grown increasingly brazen, with religious leaders also becoming targets. In a separate incident in Nissi village, an Anglican priest, Edwin Achi, and his wife, Sarah, were abducted from their home by armed assailants.
These incidents underscore a worsening security situation in which even homes and places of worship no longer offer protection against armed groups operating freely across the region.

Local leaders and residents have renewed calls on the federal and Kaduna state governments to urgently strengthen security deployment and protect vulnerable communities. The continuing pattern of killings and mass abductions has created an atmosphere of constant fear, with many residents insisting that current measures are inadequate.

For the people of Kaduna, the demand remains clear: a more proactive and robust military response is needed to halt the cycle of what they describe as “imperial violence” by bandits and to restore lasting peace to their ancestral lands.
