APC In Ebonyi, Disgrace To National Body, PDP Blasts
… Says APC’s recent press Conference is a Comic Relief to Troubled Ebonyians

The Ebonyi State chapter of People’s Democratic Party, PDP has without mercy dragged the APC party in state to mud, alleging that the latter is a disgrace to its national body.

The strong opposition party alleged that instead of their APC counterpart to collaborate with other well-meaning citizens of the state in the task of preventing the spread of Coronavirus in the state, “they resorted to cheap propaganda and blackmail which no one is interested in it at period.”

The Chairman of the ruling party in the state, Mr.  Onyekachi Nwebonyi, in a press release made available to Famous Reporters described APC in Ebonyi State “as a collection of failed politicians who have fallen out of favour with their people.

The release read in full:

“It is unfortunate that as a ruling party at the federal level, APC in Ebonyi State will stay moribund, year in year out, without any programme or activity to keep it alive in the state.

“In fact, Ebonyi State Chapter of the party is a disgrace to the APC national body and the party’s controlled federal government. They are in the habit of crying wolf instead of thinking out people oriented programs that could keep them afloat in the state.

“However, the ridiculous is that a remnant of disgruntled political elements who call themselves APC leaders in the state would ask for the resignation of the avid governor of Ebonyi State,  David Umahi and at the same time shower him encomium for his proactiveness in handling the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

“Most worrisome is that the party has not been able to organize a rally or SEC meeting since it lost woefully in the 2019 general elections in the state. Trying to get noticed as a political party is not by making frivolous jokes.

“Anyway, the press conference granted by the APC in Ebonyi State is a comic relief to the people that are bearing the pangs of the harsh realities posed by the containment measures for the COVID-19 pandemic. It is laughable that APC is blaming Governor Umahi for the APC controlled federal government’s blatant refusal to include Ebonyi State in the first tranche of the Conditional Cash Transfer Scheme, instead of apologizing to Ebonyians for their inability to attract same to the people.

There is no point joining issues with hooligans but it is important to clarify some issues.

The ban on Okada in the state is temporary, and it is aimed at checking influx of people into the state during this period. It is true that people are going through pains due to the ban but allowing that will cause more pains afterwards.

Classification of Ebonyi State as one of the poorest states in the country is no making of Engr. Chief Dave Umahi, rather, he has delisted the state from that category through numerous empowerment programmes which no single Ebonyian has not benefited from, in one way or the other, either directly or indirectly.

Contrary to the insinuation that APC members are being denied participation in the collation of names of poor and vulnerable people in the state, effort is being made by the state government to capture all the people in that category across the state. Village heads, town union leaders, ward councilors, and other stakeholders are all involved in the exercise.

Again, the claim that APC has 500,000 members in Ebonyi State is an alternative fact; a prevarication. I make bold to state that APC has not up to 1000 members in Ebonyi State. In fact, APC does not have complete executives up to ten wards in the state, especially after the crushing defeat it suffered in the 2019 elections in the state.

I only wish to call on the APC leadership in Ebonyi State to embrace the spirit of patriotism and play its role as the leading opposition party in the state. Governor Umahi welcomes criticism, but that is when it is genuine and constructive. I also call on the very resilient people of Ebonyi State not to be swayed by the rantings of mischievous attention seekers. By the Grace of God, we shall not experience the virus in Ebonyi State. Governer Umahi, out of shrewdness, has been on top of the situation”, the party stated.
