Abia Police Command Comdemns Killing of Okocha, Dismisses Erring Officer, Corporal Njok

The Nigeria Police Force, Abia State Command says it has disengaged Corporal Obagi Njok, the police officer who shot dead one Mr. Emmanuel Okocha, of his duties.

According to a release signed by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Maureen Chinaka LLB Anipr, the Command condemned in totality, the discreditable behaviour of Corporal Njok, who, it said, was found guilty of misuse of firearm, resulting in his unhesitant dismissal.

Re: The Death of Mr. Emmanuel Okocha, Shot by Police Corporal Obagi Njok

I refer to the command press release on 20/04/2024 concerning the unfortunate incident resulting in the death of Mr. Emmanuel Okocha.

1 . Disciplinary actions have been concluded by the Abia state police Command. Relevant stake holders including the family of the deceased were carried along at every step of the process.

2 . Police Corporal Obagi Njok ( as he then was) was found guilty of discreditable conduct with misuse of firearm and has therefore been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force. Investigation into the criminal aspects of his conduct has also been concluded and the matter has therefore been handed over to the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Abia state on 24/05/2024 for prosecution in court.

3 . The Abia State Police Command remains steadfast in upholding professionalism and the rule of law. We unequivocally condemn any act of misconduct, unprofessionalism, and indiscipline among our officers.
